Theres no better feeling then knowing that you are sitting inside a car made of stirafoam :( (spelling error i know)

Why cant they make cars like they used to... You know... With a thing called metal?

Styrofoam is much better at obsorbing and dispersing energy. Would you rather run into a wall of styrofoam or a brick wall? You can actually get a feel of the styrofoam if you pop the hood. You can see some of the foam from the front bumper. It's pretty stiff stuff so it's not like it's going to simply flatten out.

Kaeon 08-09-2004 10:12 PM

JUMBO 08-09-2004 10:18 PM

I have to ask you.. how do you feel about the tC after being in that wreck? -- I've been in a 70mph head on colision with a 1970-vintage truck (1/2 ton, I think, swerved at full speed into an oncoming lane and ran a red light as I was making a left turn into the same lane -- *her fault*) .. My Saturn SW2 absorbed everything and I only had a scrached finger and knee. I love Saturns and the features they built into that car so I could walk away from that wreck -- I never felt quite as safe in cars without those features..
Anyway, I'm a big fan of airbags and even opted for the side airbags in my tC..

So, Other than the ABS locking up or whatever, in the event of a crash, how do you feel about the safety features of the tC? --I'm just curious about your opinion after having first hand experience

-K

PS Hope you're recovering okay! Sounds like you were just banged up.. Glad it wasn't worse!

TCBlakeslee 08-09-2004 11:39 PM

Yea hope your OK, and how was the drivers side air bag? did it work?

08-09-2004 11:41 PM

that crash looks bad. are you ok?

JSVH 08-10-2004 12:16 AM

Silver 5-speed just like my tC. Glad your ok, Keep us updated on this ABS thing, hope it is not a problem on all tCs.

zoltiz 08-10-2004 12:25 AM

And that's after hitting a tree going 40mph with locked up wheels? Our cars are... soft.

royrose 08-10-2004 12:35 AM

Have you had any discussions with Toyota about this. If so, what do they say?

Roy

Taylor 08-10-2004 12:58 AM

Wow. It sucks, but you walked away from it. I still can't believe it though...that's quite a whack.

Diluvium 08-10-2004 01:34 AM

wtf? are you talkin to us from the undead? thats like "YOUR SUPPOSE TO BE DEAD" type crash..

since your alive that means the scion tC is very safe.

calvinwch 08-10-2004 02:27 AM

guess our TC has very good crash rating of front hit? sorry to say that, but it looks front end very bad, but stop crash at the whindshiled.

Is your insurance pay you new car?

BTW: want to sell your spare parts?

Chachunka 08-10-2004 02:32 AM

Once the car is totalled, and the insurance company is paying for your new car, the totalled vehicle becomes the property of the insurance company. You can't start scavenging it for parts.

calvinwch 08-10-2004 02:34 AM

I'm just asking :D

RageAholic 08-10-2004 12:48 PM

Ouch! Well, I have to say I've been wearing my seatbelt just to shutup that damn belt alarm.

Kemui490 08-10-2004 06:10 PM

This is the accident that occured when I was going 40 MPH and the ABS locked up in the rear which sent me spinning as I did move around an animal. The ABS locked up as I was going back into my lane. It was a defect but it is undetermined if it is on all the tC's. Hopefully it is just mine. Yeah I am OK. I am actually standing in one of those pics. I am just real soar. The pains in my hip and left arm are getting worse like the Doc said they would. I should be back in work nect Wednesday though so here is hoping I get better sooner. I want another tC real bad. My g/f who was in the accident needed a new car so she went and bought the Corolla S today. She had the same salesman as I did and he told her that if I was planning on getting another tC than I better hurry because the wait will be tremendous. That is the only problem with the damn cars; you have to wait forever and I NEED a car, I do not have the time to wait a month or more. Classes start Aug. 30 at college. In anycase, due to the amount of protection it offered and how well we came out of the crash, I want another one real bad. I did manage to take some stuff from my car while it was at the impound lot. I took the Grill that says Scion, it popped off in perfect condition, ditto with the left headlight, that is in perfect condition and it popped right off in the accident. I also took my liscence plate, duh. And I got my floor mats. HAH. The rest of my car is now in Allstate's hands. I called Scion and made a claim about the brakes and that was that. I will most likely get nothing from this except screwed, that seems to be my Karma but I am still waiting to hear back from my insurance agent about things and if they plan on investigating. Should be sometime this week that I hear from them. I am hoping for the best and that my Insurance does not sky rocket or drop me. Thanks for the Well Wishes.

sTalking_Goat 08-10-2004 06:49 PM

Holy ____! I still can't believe that the alloys actually broke

hope you feel better soon.

Charisma 08-10-2004 06:50 PM

Yikes!!! Glad to see you ARE OK.

optimus 08-10-2004 07:31 PM

wow...i am so very sorry, at least you are well enough to tell the story.

RussianTC 08-10-2004 09:39 PM

 Sorry about ur car man, but glad u're OK. Thanks for posting all this information up.
