i starting with around 200-400grit. then just touched up the area with 800grit.

i would say do some sanding to break the stock surface. once you get it around where you want, need to do some low grit sanding to get it looking smooth. after that i recommend some light wet sanding with a higher grit to get more out of it.

then use some mothers or what ever polish you favor.

If you've got a drill, just get some polishing wheels and go, no polishing compound required. It's so easy, I can't imagine doing more than a quick sanding by hand.

I'm thinking about polishing then clear coating it.... But, I like the engine cover on... with the wires exposed, it looks somewhat messy.

I'll plan a weekend day to take a look at the work involved, but I have all the polishing wheels, sand and proffesional clear coat and paint booth, so I'll see what I can come up with.

I'll probably polish then clear, and still paint my engine cover BSP to match the car (I Have some left over from painting my 72 SuperBeetle BSP... Exactly matches the other two now... ) It would definately be a just for the hell of it move though.

i was wondering, all these pics are of people that removed the engine cover, is this in any way harmful.....i was wanting to somehow have a chrome or polished engine cover......but what do yall recommend, just taking off the cover and painting the valve cover, whats the best way to doing it cause i dont want just a stock or carbon fiber cover, i want painted or chrome/polished look.....

ya gotta know what your doing if u want to take the actual valve cover off. if u have ever worked under the hood of a car this should be no problem.
