Default Pricing. Working around it...

Hey guys,

I'm Andrew from San Jose, Ca. Btw, reppin' norcal's corolla NC4 club. Anyway, my bro is thinkin' of trading in his 02 celica for these cool semi-euro japanese car. We went to go check it out over the weekend to get the base car and is being sold for 16,465 i believe(MSRP with the destination charge). I've researched a bit and Invoice is about 15, 150.

My question is, how do you work around that pricing since you do have to pre-order your tC, delivered from Long Beach, Ca for those in the west coast. The salesman said that the price is it. You cant really bargain for a lower price since it is pre-ordered through the website and through the main scion distributor.

Have any of you worked out a deal to get your tC below MSRP. We appreciate your comments.

no. What the sticker reads is what you pay, no haggling. Those are scion's rules, if a dealer breaks those rules scion will come down hard. The only price shopping you can do is in regards to dealer specific documentation fees, different dealers may have different doc fees.

The only time dealers are able to go under the msrp is if it's last years model. They are actually forbidden to sell it under msrp. But unlike other cars the msrp isn't crazy over invoice.

They can sell under MSRP all day long. There is no rules against that. Scion has pure pricing. Do a search. Basically, they have to sell all the cars for the same price, with the prices all posted clearly at the dealership including prices for all the options. If they wanted, they could sell each one for $5, but they have to sell every one then for $5 to be fair to other customers. Right now, since the demand is so high, they are all selling for MSRP and the dealer has no reason to lower the price. The only thing that maybe negotiable is the doc fees. Find a dealer that doesn't charge them, because they are out there. That will save you $200-400.

Most dealers in CA seem to charge $45 for the doc fee. Pretty fair and reasonable, and not worth souring the buying experience for me. Then again, if you wanted, it never hurts to ask.

Almost right on the Pure Pricing:

Pure Pricing means that there is consistency between the pricing on the DEALERSHIP's web site (not Scion's), the DEALERSHIP'S showroom, and on the DEALERSHIP'S in-stock cars. We (the dealers) have the ability to price the car any way we see fit, be it above, at, or below MSRP pricing. In order to be in compliance, we must modify the three things listed above to reflect ther change. Also, if I sell an xB today for $5, then everyone who wants to purchase an xB from me today gets it for $5. I can change the price again tomorrow.

The DOC fee is different everywhere, but I'm sure you won't be paying anywhere near invoice. Good luck in your search.

basically, what you said that Scion dealers have to offer same no-haggle pricing... Should have been simpler than that :-)

And btw, dont expect any discounts since car is in high demand in any case...
