Pure Price = Pure Bull
Supposively, everyone that purchases a Scion tC is demanded to pay "Pure Price". In other words, everyone pays the same amount for the car. No haggle, No Hassle. But what will happen when the 2006 model appear? Won't the dealers have to decrease the price on the 2005 models? Therefore, everyone is not paying the exact same amount. But if the 2005 models were to stay at the same price, 2006 models would have to be a tad pricier. But if this continues indefinetly, how expensive are Scions going to get?
I hope it makes sense.

Well most likely they won't have any new 05 scions on the lot and if they do they will sell it at the msrp along with the 06 model which will most likely be the same... not too complicated. Its not like they are still gonna be making 05 models very few places have more than 3 of any scion.

! ha! wishfull thinking on everyones part. I've always been told NEVER pay sticker for cars. . . well, this may be the only instance any of us pay sticker or even ABOVE. Just think . . you go into a dealership for a tC and it says $21,500. Will all the standards it comes with, I'm sure you'd buy - but WAIT, what if they gave you an incentive of like. . .$3,500 automatic - 4,000 manual? I'm sure that would make us all feel a bit better. .. now that you're happy the reality is WE have finally gotten what WE have asked for. A car with no BS. Of course dealerships have to make money. We should be excited, even sending Toyota cars at the fact that they're giving so much into this car for $17,315 base. Seriously people.
Honestly, I still want a discount. lol Its in my nature. GIVE ME SOMETHING!
Honesty "Meats" reality. . . who's hungry?
K Magnitude
Why do they need incentives? They can't meet demand at full price. Incentives would only cut their profit, while doing nothing for sales. In fact, they just RAISED the price.
There won't be many 05s hanging around when the 06s come out, but those that are will probably quietly get discounted by the dealerships (not by Scion). You might look around for those.

Discount and incentive is one thing, hidden true cost to the dealer is another. Even if Scion starting to offer say $1,000 for remaining 05 inventory, it's still upfront pricing, no haggle and not negotiable. Unlike some other brands where you have to bargain all day long and the result may vary quite dramatically based on your bargaining skill and determination. In the end, you may still feeling robbed because even with a huge marked down, the dealer sales still have a smile on his face.
So, even with some incentives on 05, it's still "pure", I guess.

when i went in to buy my xA RS which is an 05. i asked the dealer about the 04's left on his lot. the 04's were get this only $200 cheaper than the base 05's. i figured if the incentive were big enough i'd buy that and take my $2200 for some extra accessories, but nope. $200 was the difference.
my guess is that they will go to auctions or to car rental companies. many dealers may also use them as loaner vehicles for the service dept. or give them to scion employees as company cars....

Um... whoever posted this thread is kinda full of it. Why would you post something like this when you're just SPECULATING about the future? In any case, a while back I talked to my dealer about the pricing policy. He told me (and this was a while back so it might have changed) that at a certain point, they are going to be able to change the price, but the way it's going to work is that they'll be able to raise or lower it X percent, but they'll have to publish this in advance and have it good for a pretty long amount of time - still no hassle, no haggle. Those terms never say that the price won't change, they just say that the price they're marked at is what they sell at.
Just because there are some dealerships that have tCs on the lot doesn't mean they're hard to sell. If scion follows through and only sells this car for 3 or 4 years, they won't have any problems selling them for sticker. You've got to be smoking rocks if you think that anyone is going to offer incentives like 3,500 - 4,000 off these cars. The only people with incentives that big are AMERICAN manufacturers trying to sell 35k SUVs. Name a Japanese manufacturer who offers incentives like that on a car anywhere near this cheap. When was the last time you saw a lot of cash back on a Civic? Carolla? Accord? Anyone? They don't do it. They just don't. That's why these cars have such good used value. Which is why they're not going to do it any time in the near future.
If a Scion tC is selling for 21k, that means they threw every option in the book on it. If they did that, they're trying to make a bunch of money. If they want to make money, why would they discount it a bunch? Just doesn't make sense.

IRA Toyota in Danvers, Massachussetts is the biggest Toyota/Scion dealership. I think they sell the most Toyotas and Scions in the nation. They sell a lot of Scions but everytime I go to the dealership they have like 7-13 Scions just sitting there.
They have like at least 2 of each color. I don't think people would want to buy the 2005 with a $200 dollar incentive when they can buy the 2006 model for $200 dollars more.
They need to give grand dollar discounts for anyone to even consider buying last year models over the new ones (keeping in mind all those tC complaints --- paint, rattling, noise, defects). That Pure Price philosophy is garbage. My family (which is a very very large family) have purchased 6 toyotas from the same dealership within 4 years. We have even brought friends and strangers to come purchase vehicles there (making it a total of 11 cars) and each time we get HUGE discounts on our next purchase for being such loyal customers. With a Scion I can't get anything because of that "Pure Price" ad. It makes loyal customers want to go else where (another brand). If there was no Pure Price, I would get that tC for about $11,000 dollars.
Pure Price is not my best friend.

Hope that's simple enough.

I think a better name for "Pure Pricing" is "Take It or Leave It Pricing", but that doesn't sound as friendly.
The pure pricing means on the same year model.... why would they promise that every tC every made would be the same price.. or why would anyone get that idea? That pure price means that for each release, there is one price regardless of dealer or location... I never took it to mean that each year model would be the same price... that wouldnt make sense

remember that scions have been out as an 04 model and 05 model. when the 06 comes out it will be same as when it went from 04 to 05. they will stop making 05 models at a certain point and then start with the 06. there won't be many 05's out when the 06 is released.

Basically, "Pure Price" means the price is written on stone for that year model (2005). So why should that be broken at the end of the year when the 2006's come around? If not, that means the new models will be much more expensive, noh?

That's how it was at first. I was trying to get me a Silver Streak tC. But them things sold like hot cakes and only the ugly colors were left.
