Default Question about insurance rates

I am debating on whether to get a 06 SI or 06 tC.

Now, I'm not asking which should I get...my question is how are the insurance rates for the tC? And if anyone has a friend with the 06 or 07 SI, how are the insurance rates on that?

This is one factor into my decision. I would imagine the SI's insurance would be pretty crazy due to the engine...but I could be wrong.

If anyone can help me out it'd be greatly appreciated...thanks!

I think SI is considered a sports car, and the tC is till considered a compact car.

Insurance is not bad at all for the TC, do some shopping you'll find some good quotes!

Insurance isn't bad but it changes for every car with every person. Another 18 year old guy from wherever you are will have different insurance rates based on your history, violations, traffic school, location, garaged or not, etc.

Your best bet would be to call your insurance company and get quotes for both.

My bro has 3 tickets and an accident on his record. I have 1 ticket. He has a 98 sentra and pays more than I do - get my point? So give the insurance company a call

My insurance isnt particularly bad though, it went down A LOT when I got the tC and got rid of my dads z3!

My brother-in-law paid $250 a MONTH for an RSX-S.

I pay about $160 a month for an RSX-S, 2007 Camry SE, and 98 Cavalier (liability).

Of course I'm 30 with no accidents, good driving record and a few other discounts.

Do you just go around from thread to thread, regardless of the topic, saying that the tC is a horrible car??

Are you high or something?? Drunk??

Regardless, you are completely and utterly useless to this forum, so please go elsewhere

Dude... before I bought my tC I bought a brand new Si... my rates were alot higher. Like... twice as much. I was paying around $200 something, and I got my tC and I pay $115 now. It depends alot on you, your age, the state you live in, the plan that you get, how much your deductible is, and your driving history. You really need to call around. I switched companies three times before I got this quote. But that's because I called around and its because I have a $1000.00 deductible.

Plus, tthe way the insurance companies work now is after 6 months with no claims or tickets your rate will go down if you stay with the same company. So the first 6 months you may pay 160, then the next 6 months you pay 140. And once you turn 25, your rates drop by a HUGE amount... If you have more questions about insurance pm me. If you need help finding a reliable company with good prices pm me as well...

Another thing, insurance companies don't quote you on the engine of the car. I just wanted to clarify for you. The quote itself really depends on the year of the car, how much it would cost to do repairs on the vehicle in the event of an accident, the rate of crime for the vehicle (like how likely they are to be stolen), your zip code, how much driving you'll be doing in the vehicle.

Like, my roomate has a tC as well, but when I lived in Escondido, and he lived in Chula Vista, (2 cities in California like 30 miles away) my rates were lower because of the location of the city. And as mentioned above, having it garaged or not helps. And if you have a vehicle security system, low jack helps alot. (Get early warning with either car, its offered on both.)

To be honest with you from someone who was in your position not long ago, the Si is really, really nice. But it is expenisve... Like $5,000 more, and truthfully I miss the Si but the tC is nice. Huge back seat with reclining seats, refresh mode for the driver and passenger seat, and it's a strong car. The tC is more roomy. It's totally your choice and i'm not partial to either because I love both cars, respect their design and engineering a hell of alot.

Just remember if you get the Si you will pay more. For sure. You're an 18 y/o male that's going to get a hot car, that is targeted for your age group, and insurance companies expect that, for you to get tickets, and to get into accidents, so you will have high rates. But fore sure if you got questions or need help, i'll be around the forum all day and can let you know who to call around for your area... Good Luck.

I am 20, and live in Buffalo NY. The quote I got from Geico.com told me that if I was to get a new 07 tC, that it would cost me 386 a month. Which is out of this world. I test drove a nice FM 07 tC yesterday, and would LOVE to own one, but with that insurance price, it probably isn't worth the hastle.

For the record, I have one accident on my record, in which no car really recieved any damage.

Hope that helps some.

You guys need to call around... try places like AIG, 21st centruy insurance, esurance, Progressive, State Farm, AllState, and then there may be a few local insurance companies that you can get to insure you. Just dont get a hole in the wall place, get a state wide reputable company. You guys can get alot better quotes. And for the coverage, you obviously need PIP, bumper to bumper, and I would recommend something like 25,000 personal 50,000 total coverage cost for damage, if you can hack it, a $1000.00 deductilbe, GAP protection or something similar if available, and then there are other things the company will ask you if you want.

I went back to Geico.com, after I posted, just for kicks. It came out at 523 dollars, so obviously it's me doing something wrong in filling out the forms. Disregard that last post I guess.

All quotes are in 6 month incriments. So if they tell you your total is $673, then that's divided by 6, and $673 would be a hell of a quote by the way... I take it your 523 is for the 6 month coverage? That's a really good quote but it also depends what is involved in it... Are you on your own or with your parents?

Just remember, most banks will require you to have no more than a $500 deductible, so I would quote that. That's been my experience, at least. Good luck. Hope you get the car.

For me the TC was one of the most insurance friendly cars I looked at. Good luck to you on that.

^^the lowest you can go on a deductible is $500 i'm pretty sure. and i've never heard of banks requiring a $500 deductible for loans unless they are a more private bank...

Well I just turned 18 and I'm going to get the car insured under my brother (whom is 32).

He has a clean record with no accidents so I guess I'd have to ask him to help me find insurance rates.

As far as generally, the 2006 Civic SI has higher rates than the 06 tC?

It all depends on the bank. Just saying you should check it out. My last car was financed through Bank of America and they required that the deductible be no more than $500. Toyota Financial Services requires your deductible to be no more than $1000. Since it varies, you should check. It'd be a bad surprise to find out after purchase.

And you CAN have a deductible lower than $500. You can go down to $0 if you want. You just pay for it in your premium. Mine is set at $200.

What you need to make sure when selecting a deductible is that you can afford it if you got in an accident. If you wrecked your car, could you afford to shell out $1000 at any given time to get it fixed/replaced? If not, you should look for a lower deductible.
