Default Question about legality of tint

So the limit for tint in my state is 35%. I've had 5% for almost a year with no problems, but my parents have hated it the entire time. They think that if I get in a wreck, my fault or not, the other person can file a civil suit because of the illegal level of tint. We're calling insurence soon to see what they think but I'm sure they will only say if they will cover it or not, not if its possible to get screwed over because some democrat wants another handout

how would they file for window tint? if you hit them.. i mean your windshield isnt tinted .. and it they hit you.. Obviously your brake lights are working.. either way.. tint shouldnt matter

I didn't really think it was possible, but my mom is nagging me to get it removed, and I'm nagging her to let me get more(not on the winshield except maybe the strip at the top) so I figured I would clarify here and see if anyone knew for a fact.

Its not me hitting someone really, its them hitting me from the side or back and something about me not seeing them and doing something because of the tint. I don't really know where she was going with it, but hopefully a call to insurence will straighten her out, as well as reading this thread.

And if I had a case # of this happening I probably wouldn't have had to post this

As long as you can see out the windows no problem I don't really think there's an issue. At night people drive with lights on(or they should) so they can be seen. I drive with 35% on the doors and the windows rearward are all 5% and haven't had any problems. I found out at all side windows for TX can be legally tinted at 25%(during a random vehicle search), any darker and you can fail a safety inspection even. So if they wanted to I could get got for the rear side window for being 5%.

Just because you have (illegal) tint on your window(s) doesn't necessarily mean you're at fault.
There has to be reasonable cause that your tint caused an accident. That would be hard to prove
if you can see out of your car's windows. Tell your parents that you like the tint in the summer
because it keeps your tC nice and cool...

Um, yes? Not that I really care for the help of a democrat

And I never said I think that any of this is possible, I want some other people setting my mom straight instead of just my word. I'm aware its a silly thought, but I guess I don't blame her, people are getting sued over stupid ____ these days, and my mom always worries over stupid things, its just her nature

Cops in my town suprisingly aren't being douches about it like I suspected they would. They are douches about pretty much everything else.

cops in nevada have never been strict but lately now they have been cutting down and checking at dui checks and at every occasion they get. i just got rid of the 5 and got legal to have the cops leave me alone.

Here it is to sum it up for you.. A few weeks ago my mom was turning left with the arrow...Some moron decided to run the light at highway speed, needless to say hit her head on as she is practically out of the intersection and totaled the car...Her tint was illegal for what the state requires LOL...Anyways what I am saying is that it would depend on the cop for one..But if they are paying for your insurance which prolly are then just abide by their rules till you are a big boy.
