Default Question about tC engine noise.

I have a question about two things. I got my tC about three weeks ago and hit 1000 miles tonight. I've noticed since I first got the car that everytime you start the vehicle it is not consistant in the noise it makes. Sometimes the engine revs reallllly high every time I start it, and sometimes it sounds just normal, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this. Also, I do not know much about this engine (or any at all) but I notice and light pinging sounds (something like a turbo would make, but a very very faint and quiet sound). This happens when I'm shifting gears and just letting out the clutch. Can anybody explain?

Ok this has been explained numerous times but the tC has a "warm up" feature. When you first start the car in the morning, the engine is cold and the tC helps speed up the warm up process by automatically revving the engine a bit higher and slowly leveling it back down to idle when it reaches optimum temperature. I'm not sure about the pinging sounds you hear but any turbo-like sound I hear when shifting gears is the intake sucking in air when I shift gears or accellerate fast.

It is not the warm up feature, I have noticed that. It is simply whenever I start the car up it makes a different noise every single time. And this morning, it was 28 F out and I started it up, it revved really high, then shut right off, I don't know why this is happening?

the car richens the AF mixture temporarily to help the cold engine start...similar to using the "choke" on a dirtbike or lawnmower.

You guys are all just paranoid, If their was something going on OUT of the ordinary, the car would throw a CEL, I dont know if anyof you have seen the list of codes, but it has about 2x's as many CEL codes then my 93 accord...

i also have a pinging. It was a muffler defect. If I rev the car in neutral it does more than ping. Metal in the muffler starts 'pinging' against the sides of the muffler tearing it up. The dealer ordered me a new one that I haven't gotten yet.

Try using a higher octane fuel. Maybe it won't ping. I haven't noticed mine do that at all I always use 89 or higher octane fuel

I used to put 89 into my old POS truck because the gears would knock, but I havent started using 89 on the tC because I do not want to car to get used to it, which will mean I will always have to put 89 in it. Perhaps I'll try it and see if I notice it.

Then "Cyber" explain why there is such a huge demand and a two month wait for the tC? And 99% of the reviews have been VERY favorable.

Guess you appear to be in the minority on this issue.

However i do drive my friends daily, and yes, it's aproven piece of crap...can't wait till it sells and he buys a real car.....
Every car has lemons, it is quite possible your friend has one. Now, with that being said, the car does have a rev feature to help speed engine warmup. I typically let the engine do it's thing and settle back around 1000rpm before I put it in reverse and drive off slowly while the engine warms up.

If you were like posting what problems your friend has everytime this might actually be useful, but instead you spout misinformation every time I see you post. Even newbie's know to ignore your relentless bashing of the car.

Cyber is a proven troll.

Darren has said he hasn't banned her because she amuses him, but her joke is getting o-l-d. Too many tC threads are becoming about Cybergypsy instead of the topic, which is exactly what she wants.

The time is coming when Cybergypsy will be no longer to blame - it will be the mods' fault for not banning her.
