Default Question about tC shifter

Im sorry for posting this question as im sure it will annoy some people but i just want your opinion on what i should do, my car is obviously manual and its just i feel that there may be something wrong with my tranny.. the clutch engages fine but my problem is the throw feels kinda choppy when putting it in gear and tonight i noticed when i was leaving work that the car was extremely hard to get into 1 st gear and after a while it was ok but then i got home and ate dinner took a shower and went to leave again and once again it was hard to get into first and i also noticed that even with the clutch in to the floor if you go through the gears 3rd gear is choppy and if you go slow just putting it into 3rd or any gear just sitting still with the engine running you can actually feel the gear grind a little then get pulled into gear is that just the synchro woring or no?? i just wanted your opinions on if theres something wrong with my tranny or ive been reading to many posts about tranny problems...oh yea it just turned 904 miles old today...thanks

I need to have mine checked out also. Putting it into second sometimes it grinds and is rough, and the 4th gear issues I've had has popped up again. When letting the clutch out in 4th it makes some wierd noises and the shifter shakes.

Take it into the dealer. Atleast get it documented so if something happens later on its on record.

yes same here too especially on 3rd gear most of the time it won't lock in for some reason have to play around with it. I'm bringin my car in tomorrow to check it out. Hopefully nothing major though. I'll also have the sunroof check out I know there's a TSB regarding the matter that was release recently.

It's normal to sometimes not be able to get it into first (or reverse) from a standstill. If that happens, just double-clutch.

If you're having a problem downshifting into first, yes, get it checked out.

Wow, that was like two sentences. Anyways, the clutch is a little choppy, not really too much of an issue for me but hit up the dealer if you think something is wrong. I haven't had a problem getting into any gear, even third. First and Reverse can be hard to get into from a standstill, but doubleclutching gets it out. What I do is just put it in neutral to let it roll a little to line everything up. If you can't roll, hold the clutch down and shift into another gear and then try it. Seems to work for me.

I tried to read the description of your problem but it gave me a headache. Grammer errors and what not every now and again are fine, but you are the verge of writing in old english or something!

Anyway, just take the car to the dealer. Enjoy your warranty.

i noticed most of you with the clutch problem are generally from areas where the weather is cold...maybe that has something to do with it? (i dunno, just a suggestion) anyway, i noticed my clutch was super soft, but i haven't had any problems (knock on wood) and i haven't heard anyone down here complain about that, but i'll surely ask around.

This mess kills me... how come some peoples tC's are all jacked up, and others are fine, I've got already over 7,000 miles, i dog the hell out of it, and i've got no problems, I think Scion should do something... I think i'm starting to hear more bad than good. Damn car! Gotta love it though!

Sorry for the long run on sentence lol. It was almost 1 in the morning here and I had to be up at 5 am for work so I was rushing to get the post up before bed, because the problem with my car was really bothering me. Anyway, I didnt drive the car today so im not in a bad mood but i will def. take the car into the dealer most likely either tomorrow or on monday just to atleast get it documented. I just really hope its not something where im going to have to lose my car for awhile because I love driving it, but if thats the case then so be it as long as the problem gets fixed. I'll keep all you guys posted as to what the outcome may be. Thanks

Jay

P.S. the car has been doing this pretty much since the day after I brought it home

thats how i feel, the shifting should be buttery smooth thought i mean its only got 900 miles on it, i think the syncros are the issue too. The shifting should not feel as choppy as it does however sometimes it is buttery smooth... confusing :?

You guys are actually grinding when shifting gears? Are you sure it is not just notchiness? Actually grinding gears is bad and you should get it checked out.

its not really a grinding ... but more of a clanky feeling... tothe point where you feel that you almost have to force the shifter into gear... and that you have to sometimes try 2 or 3 times to get into gear...

Ok I had my dad take it for a drive last night before I was going to bring it in to the dealer today and it shifted fine for him, real smooth and everything. Hes been driving tractor trailors and boom trucks and such for almost 30 years now so I feel he has a good amount of experience driving a stick. So, today while wondering why it was still notchy feeling for me I tried shifting a different way and it helped alot. No more notchiness anymore so I guess I was pulling it into the gears the wrong way.. for example; going into 4th instead of straight down I noticed I was always pulling down on an angle, say from 12-5 on a clock insterad of 12-6. So, I think my problem was me, not my car. I was just not hitting the gears correctly which is why I was getting the notchy feeling. Which is why I think it was only happening sometimes. I mean I still have a little notchy feeling but I dont know if thats how all sticks are or no..Just a suggestion adam try pulling it into gear directly maybe your not hitting the gates for the gears right either. Not knocking your shifting ability though... anyway is that little bit of a notchy feeling ok or should i get that checked out... thanks guys
