Default Question on Crank Pulley???

Hey guys I'm trying to learn about all these parts for cars. Just curious what a Crank Pulley is used for?

a crank pulley is used to power your accessories (alternator, water pump, ac, heater, supercharger) using a belt driven by your engine.

less rotational mass = more power. meaning that it's easier to spin, therefore there's less momentum against it.

the debate on whether or not a lighter crank pulley is useful continues on the forums to this day. some people wreck their engines and blame underdrive or lightened crank pulleys, others say they've run tens of thousands of miles with no problems.

ok well to me it just seems like there would be no point in changing them to a lighter crank pulley. just doesn't seem like a point to it.

if you're serious about an aftermarket crank pulley then you'll want a lightened "underdrive" crank pulley. less rotational mass as well as a lowering the drive power to your accessories.

if you really are a car newbie then i suggest you pick up a book called "civic duty" which is mostly based on modding civics. however the general information it gives on different car components is invaluable for newbs.
