I have an 05 tc that I bought back in September of 04. In the summer time the A/C would take a while to start blowing cool air. I just thought that was how my car was, but I discovered the world of TSBs and this one is about this exact problem.

Are TSBs something I have to pay the dealership to perform or is this covered by them? If it is covered, is there a time limit on this fix to where I would have to pay for this service after a certain point? I ask, because it's getting into winter time now so the cooling is not a concern for me right now. Is it okay to just wait till summer comes around again to bring this TSB to their attention or get it done as soon as I can?

I think for the AC TSB u can check if your tC qualifies by your VIN.

 

I always thought the technical service bulletins were to raise awareness for a potential problem that has not yet yielded a recall.
If so then I do not believe it would be covered. Could be wrong though

 

Most of the TSBs are time-sensitive. BUt don't even bother with the nonsense at the dealership. Buy a $20 recharge kit at Wal Mart and follow the instructions. Mine from the factory was at the very bottom of the proper pressure range. I put in an additional 5psi and it's been all good ever since.

 

i'm going to bet that the two o-rings at the top of the a/c compressor are leaking. a common problem with 75% of all toyotas.

take a look at the lines that go into the compressor, there will most likely be a black oily spot at the connection.

 

Ohh okay. Didn't know I could do it myself. I will head over to walmart to check that out tomorrow. I don't know anything about this, so are there different brands to be concerned about to whatever it is I am doing?

 

It's as close to foolproof as you can get. If you don't have a strut bar, you'll be done in 10 minutes.

if there is a leak at the lines, DO NOT attempt to repair the leak yourself, take it to the dealer. they are special o-rings and if you take off the line without properly discharging the system, you'll get a face full of refrigerant and oil.
