Tornado Warning As of 9:30 PM PST on January 24, 2008

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 1000 PM PST for southern Los Angeles County in southwest California including the cities of Long Beach... San Pedro... Lakewood and Norwalk...

At 912 PST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm with strong rotation capable of producing a tornado. The cell was 4 miles south southwest of Long Beach... and was moving north at 25 mph. It will move onshore by 930 PM PST.

Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to
Hawthorne... Torrance and Lynwood

If in Mobile homes or vehicles... evacuate them and get inside a substantial shelter. If no shelter is available... lie flat in the nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available... seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.

^^lol

hmm its kinda windy here in Torrance right now, and still raining So according to weather.com,

“The bulk of the precipitation will remain offshore. Isolated thunderstorms will continue to be a threat with associated gusty winds…small hail and possible tornados. Rainfall totals through Saturday afternoon will generally range between one quarter and three quarters of an inch.”

Small hail and tornados....that is going to hurt

Its windy here in Long Beach and I just heard a airplane that was really close over head. (The airport is near here and you NEVER hear planes that close.) This stuff isn't supposed to happen in California!! There was a tornado here in Long Beach back when I was in 2nd grade. But it didn't do very much damage. Be safe everyone!!

^^ Wow there was a tornado in long beach before!? WOW.... there was hail storm in Alhambra yesterday morning-- that sucked majorly, it looked like snow on the 10 freeway because there was so much hail falling and it sounded like pennies hitting the car sad sad times

Yeah this sucks alright. I was just reading that a tornado touched down last night and did some damage to a hangar at the Naval Air Station in Oxnard.

I'm kind of trapped at home now, because the only road out of my canyon is flooded too deep for my intake.

Anyone remember a few years back when we had about 35 inches of rain in one season? That sucked so badly.

And then the following year we had 2 inches...

Snow is fun. I drove up Mount Wilson last year to have some fun in the snow. I think it's only around 6000ft, but they have a nice covering of snow right now. It only takes about half an hour to get to the top from the 210 freeway.
