Default reliability scores

the new consumer reports issue is out about reliability scores for cars/trucks.. not surprising that toyota is at the top of most categories. including the xA.. tC is too new, probably be on the list next year. Yesterday I posted about how Hyundai is trying a price war with the tC. Looks like the Tibby is going to need all the help it can get when it's one of the most unreliable cars in its class! seems those tibby owners are going to need that extended warranty!! here is the chart i got from detnews.com

Wow, toyota and their other brands really dominated in reliability. i had a VW prior to this and it was a piece of crap. it just started falling apart on me for some reason. it sucked.

And a recent post indicated the youth are going for the VW Beetle which is on the UNreliable list. What is wrong with our youth?

Also, the recent JD Power listing had Scion near the bottom of the list for reliability. Who is correct????

Consumer reports is unbiased (that is why they do not allow car manufacturers to use their name in advertising). They do not sell ad space in their mags for the products they test. They buy everything they test independently = manufacturers do not "donate" products to them. It is pretty much THE source of unbiases info.

JD Power, not so much.

BTW - why is this in the tC section? The only mention of the tC was to say that it was not included.

the tC's scores really depend on the owners. seems like most owners are young people who are eager to tear them apart.

and we all know that when a young person kills a tranny, it's totally the manufacturer's fault.

I'm guessing the same goes for the Tibby too.

not really, it was near the bottom of the list of owner reported issues in first 90 days of ownerships... And they do not rate them by importance, so blowing the engine is the same as "my xA has harsh ride", which was the biggest xA's problem...

Hyundai that did well on that one flunked actual reliability report for vehicle reliability, was 3x worse than average Toyota :-)

JD is biased as Hawkeye stated- The car company sends a car to JD power, so they get to pick which one goes (the one that was checked and then re-checked for problems)

CR buys cars off the lot the same as you or I do, and use their own money-

As far as the low rating- they probably only asked Cyber and Nick

I thought JD Power was surveys? When my mom owned her car for about 6 months, she got a survey from them and a dollar bill (upgront payment for filling it out ;)).

I think it's humorous that most of the more expensive, luxury vehicles are on the unreliable list. Looks like Lexus is the only one still keeping everything in alignment. But I guess that's to expect from a branch of Toyota :D

Infiniti made the cut also- It's all about the Japanese cars.

The Germans say that they have so many complaints because they have so many things that can go wrong, but somehow the Japanese have just as many features but they still work after a couple of years.
