Default Repainting-problems

So on Xmas eve, someone hit my bumper.

I took it to a local body shop to get it repaired, new bumper cover and paint.

I got the car back and the bumper didn't match...I took it back and they repainted 3 different times and none of them looked good. They had the Dupont (paint supplier) rep in and couldn't come up with anything. The also spoke with a local Toyota body shop,no luck.

Has anybody had to repaint there IIP tC? Any issues? Any suggestions....I still don't like the look of the latest color from some angles. The clear coat I think may be the problem, but the body shop is being worthless....anybody know of someone from Toyota that may be able to help me?

thanks for any help...

maybe you should call scion directly and tell them the problem, the least they can do is recommend a shop for you.

I had a new fender and front bumper put on several months ago for my FM and they matched great. The color code and the paint should match. The rep, the paint shop, and Scion should have a conference call. This should be a simple one (one would think).

IIRC, when my dad had his indigo blue truck painted, there are several varations to an "indigo" color. It could be that they are picking the wrong varation to mix by. Maybe they are shooting it on a dark or light primer when it needs to be shot on the other primer? Several things could lend to the paint being "off".

Get your money back. Many body shops will try to convince you that the rest of the car has to be color matched if they paint a panel. On a brand new car, this is absolute crap.

If your body shop can't match brand new factory paint, they're not worth your time.

Get your cash back, and have another body shop do it.

Yea, I agree, they should be able to match it by now. I wasn't excusing their work, just trying to come up with WHY it happened.

My insurance is paying for everything, but I don't want a car that is 8 months old and have a bumper that doesn't match....

There are supposedly 3 variations of the IIP....they tried all 3...and the other 2 looked even worse.

I'm thinking it may have something to do with the clearcoat...never considered the primer though.....
