Default Rotor Rust Spots

Works been crazy all so I haven't posted in awhile. Either way I love my tC but i have a lil prob. I've never owned a car with open rims and LP's. It's been a really wet summer here in NY.

My problem is I'm gettin lil rust spots on my rotors. With the car polished and the rims shinin it looks like shiznit. Not really sure if this is normal or how to remedy my situation. Any help advice would be appreciated all. Thanks deeBO

I've also noticed that on my car...only in the rear though. I've got rust/?dirt? spots on my rotors and disks. I had a can of brake cleaner left in my old car and I gave that a shot. Seemed to help.

If it's on the discs, it's perfectly normal, and easy to fix. . . drive it for about 5 minutes. . . if that doesn't work, try doing some medium-hard braking(not recommended, just drive longer), and it'll burn off fast

It's from rusting brake dust.... I usually give them a shot of air from an air compressor... just make sure not to breath any of it in on accident, brake dust contains asbestos

Yeah, it's perfectly normal and common. Not too sure what you could use to get the spots off though...

You can buy new rotors that are cadmium-plated, which keeps them looking bright & shiny, and resists corrosion. I bought some Brembo rotors that were cadmium-plated by PowerSlot for my wife's VW and they still look great after 2 years.

He would still get rust on the braking surfaces since the cadmium plating wears off. There's no way to avoid it, but it's normal. It won't affect the braking and it will go away the first time you use the brakes when driving.

Your rotors are cast iron, an excellent friction material, but one that rusts in a heartbeat when its polished surface is exposed to moisture, The only way to keep the surfaces from rusging is to drive the car regularly!

Airplanes and motorcycles sometimes have stainless steel rotors, but these are generally not used in cars due to expense and inferior friction characteristics. Automotive brakes are generally hidden, so not much attention is paid to aesthetics.

You can always try my solution: Full salt flat hubcaps! No ugly rotors visible, and no brake dust on the outside of the wheel!

rust is normal... what annoys me is i got rust on the edges of the rotors, where the brake pads don't touch it... might try to carefully brillo pad that area :p

You can paint it, and if you get any on the braking surface the pads will scrape it right off. I think one of the xB guys did this.

Yup, the rust can be ugly.. but like everyone says, it comes off when you drive.

My problem is that I've got a wide groove that goes all the way around the inside of my wheel (RO_JA Formula 5) and water washes the brake dust and rust into that grove and forms a puddle.. then when I drive, the water spins around the inside that groove until the dust and rust are dried into an even brown stripe along the inside center of the wheel. Ugly as hell.
