Default rude dealer pricing question

ok, i know this is rude, but then again, it's not the 1950's.

what does a tC actually cost, for a dealership?
how does an individual dealer at a dealership make money (commision) on selling a tC?

please don't flame me, i'm sure you want to know this too...thanks!

I dont sell Scions, but I've sold other makes in the past and I'm sure the Scion salespeople get paid a flat commission on new car sales. Probably $100-$250, which may vary by dealer. The dealership makes probably about $1000 - $2000 gross, out of which they have to pay sales, finance, and delivery people, etc.

not that having these or actual figures would help you get a discount.

Pure pricing. You can get one for 17,800.00 easy. Rear lip, single CD changer, stock auto, floormats and trunk liner. If you're having problems getting the exact model you want, i.e. the dealership is telling you they "don't come without the 6-disc CD, $3000.00 aftermarket rims, a BOSE soundsystem and leather," call this number: (866) 707-2466, file a complaint, and I PROMISE you you'll have the exact car you want right away.

I hate some dealers. Here are some of the things I found while shopping in the so cal area:

Cerritos= "This is only for test drives, it isnt for sale"
Tustin= $2500 rims on every TC
Penske (Downey)= "They all come with the pedistal spoiler", "it isnt for sale" -the only one they had, plus it was loaded. It did have the airbags though.
Elmore= "They all come with the 6disc head unit", "You cannot really order the parts you want" i.e. side impact airbags.
Perhaps I should call Scion and let them know about these guys.

I also went to Cerritos- I left
Yes there are the dealers who ONLY seem to have cars with EVERYTHING.
I finally got the right car with ,what I wanted, and actually a Fantastic Price too, considering the Pure Pricing. It worked in MY FAVOR and im sure there`s too, I hope.

I would imagine Consumer Reports would have a good handle on what a TC actually costs the dealer. I doubt they would have the exact number, but could probably have well-reasoned figure. It's called the New Car Price Service (1-866-350-8004). It will run you $12.

Like others have implied, the "actual" cost to the dealer will do you no good as the prices aren't negotiable.

And as others have also mentioned, don't believe the bs if a dealer says that the must come with "option A", "option B", etc. If it is an option on scion's website, it is an option everywhere, therefore you can elect to not have it installed on your car.

You can order the cars exactly the way you want. If a dealer is installing lots of options on their cars prior to getting sold, they are doing so to increase the profit that they are making on each unit. On each stock tC, we will make anywhere from $792 to $923 in profit, depending on the configuration (transmission, side airbags). If the customer decides to purchase additional accessories, then of course there is profit involved with them as well. But the dealership should let you decide what you want on the car.

Now, tCs have been difficult to keep in stock, due to demand. I have a tC on the lot that's sole purpose in life is to be a demonstrator car for customers. Since I do not normally have a glut of them here, this guarantees that I have a tC here for customers to drive and test. No, my demo unit is not for sale, yet. It will be eventually, as a used car. But for now, this allows people to demo a tC without putting miles on a new car, and customers get one with no miles on it. It has worked great, and customers appreciate the fact that NO ONE but them has driven their car when they get it.

$792 to $923
Is all the mark up we have on tC. Since the dealership, salesman, and sales mangment are paid on profit, not total value, it really becomes a trade off for scion salesman. Its a flat pay rate ($100-$200) on deals with that little profit, but it's a nice smooth sales process. Fortunately I sell everything from New Toyotas, and Scion, to Used, So theres plenty of oppourtunities, to make money.

I bought a demonstration unit with 800 miles. They cutted $ 2500 off the price and I already put 1000 miles on it. The cars does great and I have no problems so far. The car was inperfect condition and included fog lights, spoiler, XM radio, 6-CD changer, windows etched with the vin number, paint sealant and underbody protection. Sticker price $20500, I bought it for $18000. It was a one-time-only-that-car offer. What do you guys think?

Most dealers also profit quite a bit on their various fees, a.k.a Documentation fee or Handling fee. Not all dealers charge these and the prices vary so look around.

I'd say you got a great deal as long as you would have wanted those options(lights, window etching, paint sealant, underbody protection). I would imagine some of those things--window etch, paint sealant, underbody protection--would have a real high markup so they could afford to knock some off of the price.

I had a dealer who said they charged a $199 processing fee, the dealership up the road from them charges $77, and the place where I settled on getting mine from charges $92. I figured it was worth $15 for a 10 day wait on a 5 speed flint mica.

For those of you who live in the California (LA, Valencia, Area) who don't mind driving maybe 2 hours or so, check out BIll WRight Toyota. I called all the Scion Dealers up and down california, no on had any tC's in stock. Most said that the wait time was 3-4 weeks. Longo said that the wait time was 6-8 when I called. The scion dealers in North Cali were pretty straight forward. Their doc fee's were like 45, waiting time was standard 3-4. LA area, man they were full of sh*t. They said do you want one? I said yeah. THey said we only order them with spoilers etc. Bad bad experience. I don't work for BIll Wright. I just bought my tC from them and had a great friendly, no bullsh*t experience is all. Straight forward.

What is the sales tax? $20805 with an extra $1k in tax...damn must be nice. What is that, like 5%? Sales tax in PHX is around 7.3%.

in most places... sales tax & car purchase tax is two different percentages.
Here in VA... Sales tax is 9%..... car sales tax is 3%.
