I circled it here in yellow. Iono what it is but someone told me it's safe to remove this and it makes your engine sound a little louder. They also told me it's some kind of silencer, just making sure before I do it tomorrow.

You will be amazed at how much louder it sounds with it plugged up! That thing is meant to quiet your engine and at higher RPMs it will sound much louder. What I used to plug it up was an engine block plug or whatever that I bought at Autozone. Its the 1 5/8'' plug and I think its called an expander plug because it has a screw on the front of it that makes the rubber part of it expand when tightened. Works perfect for this application and you SHOULD like the new sound but I wasnt able to test it with the stock airbox. Have fun!

thanks guys I'll see how it sounds once I have it removed and sealed up. It should sound different since I don't even have a exhaust (completely stock)

Two questions. What is that part called? And removing this part won't harm your car whatsoever??

You can use PVC end cap... i got it at home depot... had it on my car for a while... doesn't really do much for noise though..... i truthfully noticed no difference... thats with the stock airbox..... you can get a K&N intake on ebay for like 160 now.... i would recommend that.

If you'd like i could post pics up later tonight when i get home.... but if ur going to keep the stock airbox... dont even bother you WILL NOT notice a thing.

So, if I'm looking at these pics right, the whole thing will be removed anyway if one decides to get some type of new intake?

That would be correct. It would have to be something attached to the intake and as you can tell, there certainly isn't anything there.
