Default Scion ordering question!

Hi all, Im new to the scion world.
My friend has a 2005 tc and I liked it so much that I went to the dealer to get me one.

Weird thing is that they told me they cant order one, and I have to just get lucky and have them get the one I want in by luck. (Blue 2006 Tc) When they have one coming in they will inform me and then I still may not get it if someone else buys it before me.

Is this normal? THey said it is impossible to order one because there is to much demand for them.

Should I find a new dealer or what do youi guys think?

If you can find another dealer, I would suggest you try them, instead of these people. A good Scion dealership can, and will, "put your name" on a car allotted to them. My dealership was able to identify precisely the xB I wanted in Japan and knew it was coming for me. I got it in 3.5 weeks, a 2006 xB. Good dealerships can do these things. Sounds like you found a poor dealership. You might want to try to locate a dealership near you by checking under the "Review" section here and then locating your state and proceeding from there. Good luck.

When I told my dealer I wanted the second one, they asked me what I wanted, then they called me when they got it...about a week later.
I'd say find another dealer. Find one that'll work "for you", not the other way around. Don't settle for anything less than excellence.

Well I went to Frank Scion in San Diego CA. I am living in Santa Barbara, CA right now though, so maybe I will check out the Scion Dealer here.

Is it true they cant directly order a car for a customer though, and that they have to get lucky and find one floating around somewhere? Seems like finding a needle in a haystack.

It depends on what your definition of "order" is. The regional offices actually order the vehicles from the factory based on what they think will sell. They decide the percentage of each color and transmission, etc. will be coming to their respective regions dealers.

What the dealer can do, is place a request with their regional office for a particular vehicle, and they will try to match the request to their pool of incoming vehicles as quickly as possible. Depending on the availablity of the requested vehicle, it may take a while to match. In our area, the longest is usually 6-8 weeks.

Make sure you use the dealer search function on the scion website. Most dealerships give you the ability to look at what their inventory is. This isn't without its faults however. They may say that they have certain cars in stock but when you call they don't any longer have a certain vehicle.
Also make sure you deal with a scion dealer and not a toyota dealer who sells scions. There is a difference in how and what they will do for you. Call around to the dealers with inventories and ask if they have what you are looking for.
I made a call to a dealer who was recommended here and two weeks later I had my car exactly as I wanted it. I admit I got lucky. Just be happy you are gonna get an '06.
I wish I had waited. Oh well.
Good luck.

i 2nd everything that was said.. some dealers will give you tons of excuses.. just read on another forum that a guy was given practically every excuse including "oh scion stopped making 2006 tC's for the rest of the year, you'll just have to take what we have" statement.. insane lies..

so yeah try a better dealer, they do put their "request" into the toyota ordering system and then the regional office goes and looks for that car to put their "claim" on it for the dealership. I had that with mine.. sure it takes some time, but it's worth it to get what you want.. let us know how it goes, and yeah don't fall for their shady lies..

You should go to another dealer. Some dealers place orders twice a month, 15th and 30/31th. After that, you are looking at 4-6weeks. In California they are received by boat. Once they port, they are sent to a location to add all the mods. Then they are delivered to the dealer. If you are lucky, someone might have cancelled their order, and you can get the color a lot sooner, if it is inbound to the dealer. The dealer would then do all the mods.

Well I went to a dealer near my apartment in Santa Barbara. WOW , were they like 400% better. The paperwork took like 20min rather than like 4 hours at the other place.
They said my car is at the port and will be here by Friday! Woot, I decided to go with flint mica becase they said Blue wasnt even being made yet (Yeah right), but its ok, the flint mica is prolly better than my first choice of blue anyhow =P.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Welcome.
Last week I saw a NB one with wing spoiler, foglights, and EMX rims at Paso Robles I think while I was on a trip up north.

If it's not being made yet, why do I have over 1,000 miles on one? :D

Yeah, I knew the dealers were wrong about the NB not being out, they really were clueless on the color though. They had every other color in stock, and quite a list of cars at the port.
Man though, these dealers although cluless on the blue car, were about 100 times better than the first ones I went to.

I hope you found a better place to go Lizbian.
