the auto gets up to 3k rpm at 80mph, I think that the 5 speed is at about 4k rpm at 80mph

huh. i see.

i thought the auto would rev higher since it's a 4-speed. i guess not.

does it feel strained at 3000RPM?
or even at a constant 3500-4000RPM?

I ran the engine at 4000rpm for about 150 miles straight once going around 100mph in my auto. The engine felt fine, not like it was going to blow up or something. Its a camry engine, the things going to last forever.

hmm... well.. if you don't know already, the m/t is geared much shorter.. and that's why the automatic beats the manual as far as gas mileage for highway speeds... and also that's why the m/t is great for takeoffs.

actually the engine wants to pull and pull even at 75.. not even breaking a sweat.. yeah the auto has better highway mileage, because of the lower rpms.. not contrained at all.. love the torque in this engine..

couldnt agree with that more, the m/t really wants to pull away @ 80mph, its amazing how quickly you can hit >100 from 80 in 5th.

the engine really does like to pull...today i was cruising at 75 in my BCP 5spd...and i looked down and realized i was going about 87. there is just a slight change in the engine pitch...but the engine doesnt strain at all....its wants you to go illegal speeds b4 it gets whiny...

i just don't like how the stick shakes at around 65-70 mph when your in 5th and you give it about 1/2 throttle. this tells me the clutch is slipping
after that it doesn't shake

I know! Mine keeps saying, "Go faster!"
and I'm like, "No! I am going fast enough!"
and my car's like "wtf you can go much faster!"
and I'm like "Fine! Here you go!" as I speed up to like 80 something or more
and it's like "Now why did you do that? You could have killed us!"

i took a 5 hr trip from Chicago to southern Illinois doing about 95-100 the whole way and really wasn't watching the speed, just the road.....then i was surprised to see how smooth it is at those speeds.....

I cruise at 80mph to work every day in my 5spd and the rpms are around 3600-3700 range. Not quite 4k and a bit past 3500 on the tach.

this engine is NOT stressed at all. the compression it is running is low, and running the engine and 3-4K for a while is no prob. This engine has been around for like the past 10 or so years, it has been constantly updated and revised.

I have the auto, and i do 4000RPM at 100mph, 3000 at 80mph

I consistently drive 75-80 and the engine constantly begs me for more. It is far from being stressed. However, the driver sometimes gets stressed when he looks down and sees the speedometer at 100! No stress at all.

I have driven from Minneapolis to NE Oklahoma to visit family twice in the tC. And if you have driven that trip you know it is a long straight drive... 650 miles with the cruise set on 80 the whole way practically (only stopping for gas and/or food) The car does great! And if you want to accelerate from that speed, just mash the gas, it still pull great. The car doesnt redline until just after 6k, so at 4k it is happy as hell :D
