Default Scion security and HU question

I have asked my dealer but the way they answer doesn't make mme confident they actually know what they are saying.

Does the scion security rely on the head unit or can that be replaced with aftermarket without effecting the functionality of the security system?

Thanks

Thanks, I thought as much. The dealer first told me I had to go with scion security (aftermarket wouldn' tie in correctly with the HU which I knew to be a crock) and then said that I should invest in premium sound as you can't put a new HU in the car due to the engine imobilzer brain and remote entry being in the HU.... I figured hew as full of it there as well.

^^Wow! That dealership is crooked as h3ll! I would never go back there if possible. I know dealerships make next to nothing selling tCs, but to flat out lie and tell you that you need a 'premium sound upgrade' and can't put in an aftermarket HU is ridiculous.

I would write a letter to that stealership's general manager informing them that they've lost any future business with them because of their service department's dishonest business practices, and explain exactly what you told us to them. You might try throwing in a reference to the BBB to get your point across about how unhappy you are with their dishonesty.

I may follow up with them and complain... to be fair I probably made it sound worse than it actually was (he didn't chaes me down and try to force that stuff on me) but he did answer my questions in such a way that it was impossible to come to any conclusion other than that. I am sure he knew exactly how he was toeing the line and probably technically didn't cross it enough to get caught, but pretty shady all the same.
