Default Scion Speed, questions and claims....

Does anybody know anything about this website Scion Speed, www.scionspeed.com? They have some pretty ridiculous claims like the one I posted below. Are these for real b/c as far as the pricing goes instead of picking up a Supercharger that boosts the tC to 200hp, they can give you 60hp+ more for about $2850 which is from what i hear less than the 3 grand Scion will be charging for the Supercharger. I understand you might have to wait until you've got one foot in the grave before you get your kit, but wouldn't it be worth it. Also this sounds like something that they or someone who completely understands what they do and their parts to install for you. Just wonderin' what the deal is with this b/c installing things and me are exactly best friends. Thanks

"...and of course all you guys know of our 2005 SCION tC project putting out over 420 HP to the front wheels, and doing 12.0 to the ¼ mile, again the only one in the world! The list goes on and on.
We have also renamed our kits to better reflect their performance! Here is our new pricing schedule:
KILL Kit (260 WHP) 500WHP capable : Down payment- $1600 Pre-Order price- $2850
DESTROY Kit (300 WHP) 500WHP capable : Down payment- $2450 Pre-Order price- $3550
TERMINATE Kit (370 WHP ) 600+WHP capable : Down payment- $3650 Pre-Order price- $5500
All that is required to place an order is the down-payment. The remaining balance must be paid prior to shipping. Remember all pre-order kits will include a set of TEIN S-Tech springs. Order at www.scionspeeed.com. If you wait, you will pay more and miss out on the free springs!"

Obviously you are not too familiar with turbochargers. Most turbo kits can easily double horsepower for a price comparable to supercharger kits that output much less. A few other companies are developing turbo kits for the tC that output just about the same for a similar price. The thing you have to realize is turbos can easily be more expensive if you have to have numerous pulls on a dyno and have it professionally tuned.

thus far, scionspeed has been in development of these kits for a *long* time, going on 7 months, I beleive.

It's hard to say anything about the company, as their product is as much vaporware to the general public as the TRD supercharger is.

My opinion is that press release on non shipping items (such as horsepower claims and "fastest 1/4 tc" ) are marketing tools designed to generate public interest.

I'm not saying scionspeed is illegit, or even trying to say anything negative about them at all. I'm just saying that beyond a few test vehicles, there are no kits shipping. Until that happens, it's hard to say anything at all about the turbo kits.

Yeah 7 months waiting on some turbochargers to come in so they(ScionSpeed) can finish the kits so they can ship. What supplier would take 7 months to produce a turbocharger and still remain in business? Stage 1 & 2 use the same turbocharger so I can understand their delay but what about stage 3? Stage 3 has a totally different turbo, you mean they are backordered too?

I dont think it was the turbo's themselves that were causing the delay...i think it was maybe something to do with the downpipe?? I'm not sure.

I just know that if I were running a company, and I had a 7 month delay on a product, even if it was not my fault, I would be giving my custmers a discount.

No matter how good your product is, it is nothing compared to a disgruntled customer. Keeping your customer base happy is what keeps you in business. Allowing 7 months to go by before shipping your product is a dangerous recipe, which often times will cause you to lose market share, even if it's to an inferior product.

As mentioned in another post it is just the turbo they are waiting for. on clubsciontc.com there is a member that got his stage 2 kit. The turbos are comingslowly but surely.

So why are people complaining about ScionSpeed taking 7 months to develop and manufacture this, yet nobody's really bashing Scion for taking over a year to release the Supercharger?

^^^ For real! Besides TRD hasn't "directly" taken 10's of thousands of dollars from people for a preorder of something that wasn't just about ready to ship.

yeah just re-read the post itself...itwas the custom built internals that were holding it up. not sure why I thought it was somethign to do with the downpipes. Sorry if I mislead anyone!

exactly being behind production is understandable, for a short period of time.
But 7 months isn't being behind, that's just inexcuseable.

Being 7 months late, especially after taking deposits, will cause a perception of "they an out of money, they are using deposits to buy parts"

I am NOT saying this was the case , I'm saying that is what people will perceive, right or wrong, and that is why it is so vital to make sure that if you are behind, *everyone* knows why, and there is some sort of compensation when there are unusually long delays.

I'm a newb when it comes to engines on cars...I don't claim to know much more then the basics because I don't know them...

Which leads me to my ? about the turbo kits...

As far as installation goes, is it something that can be done at home if you have general car knowledge? Or better off havin someone else do it who does it for a living?

Also, as far as fine tuning it, is this something that needs to be done just to get the most power out of it, or if you're satisfied w/ out of box power does it not need to be done at all??

Just asking because lately I've been thinking about upgrading to a SC or turbo....just wanna know what I'm getting myself into.

Installation of the turbo kit can be done by just about any home mechanic. The tuning however really should be done by a seasoned pro with access to a dyno. If it is tuned wrong, you could have catastophic consequences.

If you're mechanically inclined I'm pretty sure you could do this install yourself but I would reccommend having someone around who has done this type of thing before. I pieced together my first turbo setup and installed it on my previous car with the help from a few friends.

Fine tuning allows you to extract the most power from your car but also keeps it safe and reliable. Don't forget you will need to keep up with maintenance on your car to ensure a long healthy life. Do a little research and learn from others. There are alot of knowledgable people on this board.
