A Scion Story
Well I thought I would take a moment to put up a post... I have been reading this forum off and on for a while, but didnt feel like I should join the fun until I actually owned said vehicle.
Here we go.
Hello everyone, Im Bryan. 25 years old from the chicago area. And I am currently an activated national guard troop serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
When I got activated oh so long ago (03JAN05) the TC was but a commercial on TV... didnt really know anything about them.
But boy do I know HMMWV's. Im an army mechanic you see. So I also tinker with regular cars, trucks, whatever and pretty much just drive in sublegal ways when and if I am home and not doing too much around the house.
Well I got to iraq...
And here is a pic sitting in my "Modded" M998 with optional Uparmor! Im actually sitting in the "sunroof" modification that is fitted with a special "Bug" Deflector and .50 cal.

and well... as much fun as that was... I spent a lot of time sitting at the internet tent and internet labs just looking at cars... because well... If I was getting sent to places like this...

then i was at the very least going to get a hot car when I got back home.
So I sat online and researched and researched... and visited honda forums and toyota forums and acura sites and everything else under the sun.
then... I got a visit from santa.

and santa brought me the best gift of all... a 15 day trip back to chicago in FEB!
so... I packed my stuff... and waited.

and finally... after a lot of waiting... I was home in chi-town on leave.
I was picked up at the airport by my parental unit... and I ate some real food... and on my way home I test drove 18 different vehicles. The last one being the Scion TC.
I bought the TC on the spot... while on leave.
Which may sound downright wierd, but It would have cost me about 600 dollars to rent a car while I was home for 15 days... and that just seemed like a waste of money... and well... I wanted the TC... so I bought it.

and well... I love it. As someone that only ever drove small trucks and SUV's... and played with muscle cars both in the speed departments and body departments... and as someone that only really works on huge diesel beasts... I love this little car.
I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone that posts on this site for being very helpful and very fun to read.
Im headed back out to the sand for another couple of months... but should be back for good in time for summer...
Ill most likely be hitting up / looking for a scion club in the chicago area to adopt me very soon.
anyhow... thats my story... and im sticking to it.
Have a nice night everyone.
Bryan

I know you'll enjoy the car. Hopefully you can make a meet or two in the summer.
This kind of sounds cheesy,
but from all of us here on scionlife and basically the majority of the US.
Thanks!

Nice story, great post, and good choice. Many thanks from me and everyone else in the states. If you ever find yourself north of chicago and in the need of some milwaukee brewers tickets or someone to talk scion, Im your guy.
Hi Brian - I'm an old person Scion driver - 06 Flint Mica. I read the forums trying to keep up with any info. My son came back from 7.5 months in Iraq and bought a Scion too. He goes back to Iraq this summer. You deserve a new car after spending time in the "sand box"! Pictures were nice! Thanks for your service and please be safe!

ive had a ball these last couple of weeks, but its my last day at home, and the girlfriend is demanding every last hour i have before i get to the airport.
but i should be around online quite a bit (im addicted to the computer lab at the base im at)
so dont be surprised to see my name around.
and just because I am a nut, here are the planned mods that will be done on the car... in sequence.
1) sway bar
2) springs
3) torque dampener
4) intake
5) port and polish
6) headers
7) full custom exhaust
lightweight pullys and flywheel
9) custom made carbon fibre hood (i like to play with fiberglass)
10) (if people get off thier collective behinds...and make the thing) altezza rear lights
11) HID 12000k dual beam
12) graphics
13) changing all the amber LED's (I have a thing for blue)
14) caliper painting
and... i have a couple of nutty tuner buddies that swear up and down there is a more aggressive cam availible for the engine... if i can get my grubby hands on it... ill throw that in as well.
anyhow...
ill be visiting once in a while once i hit good old baghdad again, hope to see you guys around.

Dude...YOU ROCK! Keep your head down and stay safe. THANKS for all you have done. Your post kinda made me proud.
Get back soon, so you can enjoy that new car. I've had mine for 5 months now, and I still love it. I have a few mods, and am looking forward to more. Time and money...that's the ticket.
Have a great Valentines Day!
