Default Scion XA Cold Air Intake, few questions, I'm a scion newbie

I currently own a Porsche Turbo and a Mustang Cobra, and I was looking for an efficient, fun car to own. I have a Scion XA on order (manual), and I have a few questions.

I am glad to have the good gas mileage, but I am looking for a little more pickup.

The Scion dealer offers a Cold Air Induction system from the factory, for $335, I think it's an AEM, but the factory can get it. I am wondering how much horsepower I will get out of this cold air induction factory system. Is it worth the $335? And if not, can you recommend a good cold air intake, that may give me a little more pickup?

Also, I am looking for a short shifter, and the factory offers one, I see that it's a TRD short shifter for $157, shown on Scions webpage. Is this the best short shifter on the market? Is it good for the money?

Thanks for your help,

No the AEM CAI is not worth that money. Shop around & get a Injen CAI. Also not to many short shifters around. As for HP gains from the CAI. Look at a good 3hp or so. You need to look at the fact that this car is a 1.5L 108hp engine so your not going to pick up a lot like you would in your other rides. Welcome to the forum.

Look for a K&N FIPK!!! I installed one on my fathers 03' 4Runner- I must tell you that k&N puts together some nice kits. The kit comes with photos and Instuctions that actually relate to the vehicle you order it for! Comes with nice (not cheap) hardware too.....

I'll pass on the cold air intake then. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm buying the Scion because it's a pretty fuel efficient car, and I was interested in the intake because the salesman said it would give me another 30 horsepower, I knew it was BS.

Is there anything that I can do (simple), other than throwing on a supercharger, that can get me some extra horsepower?

Thanks.

The most simple things are CAI, Header & Exhaust. You should be able to get all this for less then $700 or so. Now the amount of power that you will gain wont be mind blowing, but most ppl say this is enough. The cheapest s/c kit I have found is $2800 & those claim about 30hp increase at the wheels. So you would be putting down about 120 then. Add in the other stuff I listed & you "might" be near 130 but I have no clue for sure.

Edit: If you want some links to the parts im looking into I will list them.
Blitz Supercharger = $2,800 (http://www.optionwagon.com)
DC Sports Header = $215 (http://www.robearracing.com)
The exhaust I would have custom made using parts from magnaflow & summitracing so I cant help you there.

Cheapest significant gain in horsepower will be a decent nitrous set up............but we all know the N20 has its ups and downs.

As for a CAI........doesn't seem you can go wrong with the Injen or the K&N typhoon. I've got the K&N and am happy with it. Either can be had for under $200. But yeah.......don't expect more than a 5 hp gain.......IF that.

Well, of course I'm not looking to try and get as much horsewpower as I can out of this car. However, I do feel like if I could get another 15 horespower or so it would be worthwhile.

Default CAI and Exhaust

There is a ton of info and products on trdsparks.com TRD, Borla, Injen, Toyota, and Scion products under the Intake and Exhaust section and there is more under accessories. All of it's discounted and the site might be helpful.

K&N hasn't made one yet (FIPK that is) for the xA.

Actually, K&N started producing an xA typhoon last month, I believe. It bends down under the battery to under the bumper/foglight... Looks good...

Injen shows in their chart like about 6.9 hp gain I think , so that would be good
