SCUBA diving with the Valet key
Can I put the valet key in my wetsuit? Or will the resulting water/pressure damage the smartchip inside? I hate to have to hide my key while I'm underwater.
wouldn't recommend it. All it would take is for 1 drop of water to breach the rubber part and you'd be out a key.
You may want to look into 1 of those airtight containers....you can clip it to your BCD or slip it into a pocket.

Probably a dumb question, but I got three keys with my scion. Two have the remote open funciton built into them and the third does not, it looks like a regular key. Does that have a "smart chip" inside of it?
The 3rd key is your 'valet' key. Yes it has a smartchip, yes it will start your car, no it will not open your glovebox. Scion recommends you give this key when you have your car valet parked, this way they cant touch your glove box or anything in it. Hope this helps.
yes it does arrow21. The two remote keys are masters, the third is the valet.
Rodax, I'm assuming you are diving off the beach and not via boat which is why you bring this up? If I were in your situation (I dont see why this wouldnt work), what I would do is have a normal duplicate key made by a locksmith (no chip). Then before diving I'd hide the key with the chip in the car and keep the new metal key with me. Use the metal key to open the doors to get to the real key. Beyond water affecting the chip, I would also be concerned about pressure (depending on how deep you intend to dive).
Be sure to try the key out on the doors before locking your real key inside.

Both my dealer and other dealers on the board have said it's ok to swim, dive or whatever with the valet key. My suggestion would be to lock your standard key (with the keyless entry and stuff) inside your car and take the valet key with you.
Here's a link to http://www.is300.net/modules.php?nam...c04e9c2d3a189a similar question I posed on the IS300 website:
Why not get one of those magnetic key boxes? Made to hold a spare key and it sticks to your frame or wherever with some strong ___ magnets. I've had them on all my cars and no problems...they sure as hell stay on. Went mudding and rock climbing many many many times with one under my CJ and it stayed right where I left it through it all and the pressure washing....Walmart carries 'em. My .02
