Default seats under warranty?

So this is what happened to my driver seat. I have close to 11000 miles on my car, I wear jeans, kahki's and quat. and I only weight 133lbs. So is anyone else having these problems? Can I get it fixed under warranty? they are just two different views of the same seat.

No, that's consider normal wear and tear. There might be something like a rivet on a pair of pants you normally wear that rubs there.

Unless you can prove that the seat was like that or it had something wrong with it, then it would be covered.

^^^isn't that the dealers job. To prove that its normal wear and tear. My argument here is other people's seats are fine and I buy my clothes at the local mall like everyone else. Majority of my pants don't have rivets. I only own 1 pair of jeans and those don't have rivets on the back.

Oh mighty Tom the mod and lo_bux can you guys give me way to prove that its a defect?

i have not seen anything like that happen...

sometimes like posted before, you may have somthing that might rub it and your not aware of it..

just keep an eye out for things you wear, and or if someone tried to clean a spill up and used a chemical that was not to be used..

just my opinion, but things like stitching coming undone where there is no real normal wear and tear is one thing that is covered under warranty...

The seat material appears to be an acrylic/polyester knit, and one of the problems with that sort of material is it tends to 'fuzz' when scuffed or abraded. It looks (from the pics) like whatever you commonly wear has SOMETHING in that area that abrades the seat surface when moved against it. Could be as simple as a slightly more durable material in jeans or slacks that are just pushed into that area of the seat harder by a wallet or something. It could be as simple as a sewn-on label or even the seams of a jean pocket.

I have a little bit of wear showing on the drivers seat in my xB, and I expect it is from the much harder/more durable material in the slacks I commonly wear and the seam in them that happens to fall right on the wear pattern...

I suspect a dealer is going to look at your wear as 'normal' rather than as a warranty item. Up-market cars have more durable seat materials than econo-boxes, I'm afraid.

(I'll even bet yours is a stick... Looks like a jean patch pocket digging in while using the clutch...)

My passengers side seat was like that, my dog did it with his nails one day when I was taking him to the vets. It's just cheap material and like someone else said earlier, I doubt that it's under warranty because it's normal wear and tear. I wasn't too worried about it cause I knew I was getting Sparco seats. Now, I'm getting a whole new TC since I got in a car accident and it's totaled.

sorry, but its an auto. LOL. my wallet is on the right back pocket always. Looks like im going to have to get one of those things to put over my seat or get leather to cover that up. (i doubt leather, to expensive). (How much is leather? what company is good, long durability is what Im looking for.). Dam, cheap material. Thanks for your help Tom. How is the acetone going for you.

I think i found the culprit. I have shorts that are cargo with velcro on the back pocket. That is what I am going to guess was diggin in. But still, after 1 summer of wearing cargo pants with velcro this happens. Unacceptable (IMO). Hopefully I won't wear a hole through my seat by next year summer. My car is only 10 months old and its been through dante's inferno. How sad. Hopefully these seats will last or Im off to the junk yard to see if they have any totaled tC's with good seats. I highly doubt it.

Yup. The nylon "gripper" side of velcro will totally destroy this kind of material. The little grippers grab the loops of the seat material, and when slid or pulled away will 'break' the loops, leaving a cut pile rather than loop pile look (fuzzy). The hooks on the velcro are MUCH tougher than the pile on the seats.

Most any knit material will be damaged on contact with the 'rough' side of Velcro.

(The loop pile material on the 'soft' part of Velcro is a very, very tough nylon material, but even it eventually fails.)

Oh, my car is about 3100 right now, lol, still relatively new... I still have yet to ask the dealer... dang, they are like an hour drive from my house, why'd my parents have to get it so far away? (and no, btw&fyi, they didn't buy it, i'm paying for it in full)

I have similar wear on my seats, it's horrible. I'm actually pretty disappointed with all the upholstery... It sucks to say something about your car sucks, but it's better than denying... we got shafted in that department...

My seats are starting to show a couple 'snags' here and there, but SUPPOSEDLY, our extended warranty will cover spills, tears, rips, snags, ETC. We'll see I guess...

Why don't you simply burn it "Accidentely" then could it be replaced?

I have tears on both of my seats on the upper handle where you slide the seat up to get in the back. They are both identical and torn right down in a straight line. The service department said they were under warranty , but they had to keep the car for three days. I told them i would get back to them
