I was just chatting with my salesman the other day about what he was going to put on his tC and what I was going to put on mine. I mentioned that I would have them install the springs and something else but I wanted to put the CAI on myself and he said that anything that is not installed by the dealer will void the warranty on that respective part of the car, the engine in the case of the CAI.

I don't think that sounds right, I could understand something like the supercharger but a simple bolt on CAI that's almost impossible to screw the install just doesn't seem right.

anything you install yourself is not under warranty. but all you have to do if somethin happens is put on your stock stuff before you go to the dealer.

Installing a cai will not void the engine warranty unless that was positively the piece that cause the engine to fail. Same with the exhaust. All it voids is the aftermarket piece itself from being covered.

Hmm, what happens if the CAI actually did cause the failur? If it was a defective CAI from someone like mcgeorges, same as what the dealer has, is the engine warranty still void? I mean in that case, its not the install, but the hardware itself?

I bought the extended warranty, the 7 year one, doh. Just seems ridiculous to go through the hassle of dropping of the car at the dealer, not to mention the hefty install, for what basically amounts to tightening a bolt.

All this information is sort of inacurate.

The dealer can only void the warranty if the after market part was the cause for failure, So if you put the CAI on and sucked up water and hydro locked your car then your gonna be ____ outta luck. But if you put the CAI on and your transmisson goes bad then the dealer HAS to fix it.

Don't beleive me then look up something called the Moss Magnuson Act

I bought some stuff from McGeorge Parts and called the dealer to see how much labor would be for the install. It was cheap, so I went ahead and did it. I still saved money by purchasing the parts from McGeorge Parts, so no big deal. Anyway, I figured since I didn't purchase the parts from Toyota/Scion directly, they wouldn't be under warranty (I didn't care much). When they were done with the install, my service guy told me that since I had them installed by Toyota, they are covered for 3 yr/36,000 mi. or something like that. I was really surprised. Maybe you should just have the dealer install your equipment. :?: If they mess anything up, they have to fix it, you know? Find out how much labor would be for the install. They have a book with the prices for labor, parts, etc. If you figure it's too much to pay, do it yourself, but definitely keep the stock parts handy in case something does go wrong.

Oh yes...definitely look into the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C) and this - what to do if your warranty is denied.

I have a small custome shop and I purchased an 05 xb to promote my shop,my big question was about my warranty,I was told that anything that bolts on,no cutting or welding, and uses stock mounting points doesnt void the warranty. So I called SCION directly, they agreed with the before mentioned,if it didnt cause the problem directly then its still warrantable.
