Default Shift boot fell apart when I was cleaning it today

I sprayed it with 409 and was wiping it down today and the shift boot on my 5 speed fell down inside the shifter box. I took off the silver square outer trim piece and attempted to reinstall it when the leather of the boot seperated from the square inner piece. It's stapled to it and 5 of the staples had came apart.

What a pain in the ___. As if I don't have enough other interior problems for the dealer to fix (moving air vents, fabric seperating on the front seat seatbacks).

Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this.

dang that sucks. Might just want to look into a aftermarket shift boot. Might add some better looks then the stock one. That is if the dealer wont replace it under warranty.

don't use 409 maybe some dash and vent spray and a can of "dust-off"

yea i accidently ripped the leather of the shift boot. i was pulling on it for awhile then next thing you know RIP!

i was ____ed.... the plastic and the leather were stapled together... but it was neat to see whats under...

i took the whole thing off... the silver outside cover then a black plastic piece under with leather stapled around.

i got it all fix thos the silver plastic keeps it tight shut...

maybe you should remove it and have it sewn professionally.. so that it won't come loose again..

if you are looking for an aftermarket shift boot goto http://redlinegoods.com they dont have a shift boot for the tC yet, but email them and help them make it (send them your stock boot and also do a write up for the installation) and you will end up with a super nice high quality italian leather shift boot for free!

I just want a high quality Italian boot.

But only because I can't afford a pair.

Back when I first got my tC I had the same thing happen when I was putting on the OBX shift ****. For some reason, when I was screwing the new one back on, the boot was twisting with it and ripped right off
