the best route financially is to save and put the money down in the beginning, but you would only be saving the intrest that accumulates in those first 6 months or so. Would you rather have the tC sooner and loose a little bit of money in the long run, or later and save that little bit of money? In your case, since you would most likely have to throw money into the talon, it might be in your best interest to get the tC sooner, but its all your decision.

don't buy a brand new car unless you're sure you can do it. just drive the talon as a beater, or better yet, go out and buy a beater for 500. i picked up a 240sx a couple weeks ago for $500. mechanically perfect, just some dents from the previous women owner

Allright i am gonna tell you what you most likely want to hear and say go ahead and buy the scion. I have a 1997 eclispe RS...almost the same car as yours...with 138000 miles on it and its becomming expensive to fix. $700 for a new axle and wheel bearing for driver side only...dont forget labor charges. But those older eclipses/talons have electrical problems as well. What i would do is print up the blue book trade in value checking off as many options that apply, and bring it in to the dealer. Tell him if he can offer that then you will sign...and be prepared to walk away. Go to different dealers. If nobody will give it to you...go to the largest dealer and say that another dealer will offer you this and ask if he can match it. Worked for me, i got exact blue book trade in, and my scion will be in within the week!!!!!

OMG at first I thought those problems listed at the top was for the tC. I was like, if one drop of oil hits the ground this ealry in the game the car is gone... Phew...

Yeah man I'd save up for a while first, as much as possible, and when the time is right and your car isn't cutting it anymore, buy a tC. The value of a tC is incredible. Due to their fixed dealer costs, I don't see you getting any special deals. But it's worth it regardless.

Thats means that I should have $6000 + $1500 (trade-in) = $7500 paid on the car before I will have to start making regular monthly payments (eg. $250/$300).

Does that sound like a good idea? ...or does it still make more sense to put the $600 into my Talon and save up before buying the tC? Also, if I plan on making big payments, wouldn't I still take out the loan for 5 years?
That should work great, AS LONG as you stick to the plan. Getting a 60-month loan is fine as well, with the same caveat. If that's the route you plan on taking, then no, it would not seem to make sense to pour hundreds of dollars into the Talon at this point.
