I was looking at scion.com and i noticed that the tC is advertised at having 161hp and 163tq, maybe Im going crazy but didn't it used to only have 160hp? I know it's stupid to fuss over ONE pony, but Im just curious where this extra HP could have come from, do they have SLIGHTLY different engines now? I think they also changed some of the music from the old scion commercials. hmmm, I just felt like posting...

Also on a side note. I finally got my TRD Lowering springs on, they've been on for the past week and I absolutely love them, The ride is exactly the same except it takes turns better now (or at least it seems to) It's not bouncy at all!

I think the 161HP is from the "supposedly" higher redline the tC is supposed to have. Maybe they re-dyno'd the car at the crank? hmmm

 

I say that the goverment should regulate any car ad so only show official whp of the car, not at the crank. What do you think?

 

i second that soros. hey darkness, do they really feel like stock? cause ive been thinking about getting springs jsut for the looks, but i was afraid i lose the comfortable ride of the stock ones. im stuck between the hotchkis and the trd. but with what you said.. TRD gets uber bonus poiunts haha.

The higher redline for 2007, as far as I know, is still just a rumor.


I also remember the car rated as 160 previously, and I know that the DOT just forced Toyota to redo all their HP numbers, so who knows.

 

That would be very nice to have a higher redline. In my stock 5-speed, I am hitting redline in third about 100-150 feet from the end of the track. It sucks having to shift into fourth that close to the finish.

ADR, yes it feels just about identical to stock springs. And although it's not a huge drop, it's very tasteful and doesnt make the car all "slammed" looking. I mostly got the TRD springs due to me not having to buy new shocks/struts since the drop isn't all that much.

I disagree. Wheel dynos are WAY more in-accurate than a crank dyno. There are too many variables in the way. So they could dyno it at 140whp.. then someone gets the car and dynos 130 whp, while someone else gets 145 whp. There are too many other ways they would have to regulate what is on the car, then what type of wheel dyno to use as the "standard".

I personally think anyone that actually wants to seriously mod the car should take the time to understand drivetrain loss and understand the concept of wheel vs crank hp.

The other nice thing for the manufatcturer is that they rate the engine, so no having to do separate tests for auto, 5 spd, using the same engine in a different car, etc.

I realize the want for them stating WHP, but you open up a can of worms when it comes to bloated ratings.

Its really just my viewpoint What I would really like would be to have them post both sets of numbers. But convincing them to spend more money in testing that is not required would be fun :D

 

Still I doubt that they would spend thousands, but still both test is actually a good idea, since you have the REAL world taken into account, and the crank potential.
