Smoked a XRS corolla today :)
I work at a dealership and I own a tC. My co-worker has a new XRS Corolla and trashed talked the tC. He challenged me to race. Well he will not talk ish again. He never even nosed ahead. Corolla XRS = 6 speeds of slow and 3K more dow

XRS has the potential to smoke tC if ur friend played his card right. XRS comes with a high rev engine and the real monster kick in around 6000 - 7500 rpm. Your friend may be too conservative in driving considering it is his new car, Tell me if I am wrong.
It does weigh less has more HP but pretty light on Torque. We made 2 tries since he said he burned out to much on the first run. Still got him on the second run. We will see.
XRS (rolla and matrix) take a very skillful driver to use the potential of the 2ZZ. If he shifts too slow and does not land in lift he will lose, but if he does not mess up and lands his shifts above 6200 you'll be toast. And that's a good thing about tC - you don't have to work hard to move fast :D
I was curious about this combo. The xrs engine is a nice engine, but the high compression limits it possibilites. The tc has a nice a torque rating while toyota has worked on the torque with the 2zz it is still a poor number. I used to drive a matrix xrs and it took some time to learn the shifting. maybe two skillful drivers can get together to run the cars.
i think a saw some info on the corolla...
XRS - 7.6 sec.
tC - 7.4sec.
i think tC would still win.... even if the corolla is lighter and 10+hp. tC still good enough to take it
the corolla does have very low torque tho... 120

7.1 sec 0-60
15.8 sec 1/4 @ 90mph
"We got these impressive numbers despite the challenges of launching a peaky front-drive car at a dusty, windy high-altitude site where you need enough wheelspin to hike the revs up near the torque peak, but not enough to turn forward momentum into tire smoke. Our weather-correction math puts all our numbers on a level playing field, but it can't alter the physical challenges presented by the environment."
Scion TC
7.4 sec 0-60
15.7 1/4 @ 88mph
Its a drivers race
i know that they have a pretty nice turbo for the gt-s celica...which is the same engine. so, i would think potential isn't that bad. also, i read something in sportscompact that i thought was funny, but logical. "hp is for racing, torque is for smoky burnouts..."

If you drive the XRS right, it can easily burn a tC. Don't get me wrong, I love my tC, but...working as a sales rep for toyota, I've driven the XRS plenty of times, and that powerful 170hp VVTL-i 1.8 engine, on a car almost half the weight of the tC, puts it at a huge advantage.

once I finsih my tC, there will be very few cars that can touch it. AFter opening up the exaust, adding new headers, and intakes, and ofcourse changing out the facotry chip. I should easily be at about 185+ HP. Then of course with the realse of the TRD supercharger, that should jump to about 230hp.

High-revs = good for racing... but 160 or 170 hp not so good for racing. Neither of these cars is that terribly quick, thats not their intention. Economy with enough pep to not be boring is the name of the game.
As mods start racking up though, it will be a very different story.
may have exaggerated..theres only like a 300lb difference.
Anyway, the XRS is far from strung out. Theres still as much after market potential for the XRS, as there is for the tC, in terms of increasing horsepower.
Like I said before tho, I still prefer my tC, over the XRS.

This car has a better powerband than the XRS engine, and it has a lot more style! Hands down, this car is better IMO!
Launching any 2ZZ, whether in the Celica, Rolla or Matrix, is a major pain in the keister. In contrast, IMHO, anyone with half a pulse can get a good time out of the tC
I haven't lost a stoplight race to a tC yet, although come very close on more than one occasion.
