nice, do you see where they installed anything? it's suppossed to be stealth.

i was watching cops one time and they recovered some construction machinery that was lojacked (smart). the cop car had this little screen that would give them an arrow and beep to tell them how close they were, like play hot and cold when you were a kid

Do you have to pay for some kind of service to keep it active?

From my understanding, it is inactive when you have your car. When you fill out a stolen vehicle report, it is activated and sends out signals to the cops. That is the only time it is active. All you pay for is the install (from my understanding). I am going to check into getting this and see if I can get a better insurance rate.

Do any of the aftermarket alarms (viper, compustar, etc etc) have something similar to this? I'd love to have alarm, remote start, and vehicle tracking all in one system.

-no i don't have to pay a monthly fee for it just 2 years from now when the warranty is up on it they recommend having it inspected for 70 dollars to make sure it's still working and what not which is okay with me

-and i don't know about any of the aftermarket stuff but i know lojack makes an alarm system but i don't know about remote start

-and no i don't know where they installed it at exactly. i was supposed to ask where they put it but i was so tired i forgot lol

They're not suppose to/allowed to tell you where the transmitter is placed on your vehicle. It is suppose to be completely unknown and random so intruders have no idea where to look in order to disable it.

Neothin - Viper has something similar, I believe, but it's active... and you have to keep paying per year for it.

Yes, Viper and other companies use GPS to track, which has vast positives and negatives over LoJack. The biggest problem with LoJack is that it can't be tracked outside of most major metropolitan areas and in 24 states, so unless you are able file a report within a few hours, a smart thief can take your car out of range. GPS-based systems are able to be tracked nation wide and into Canada and Mexico, however they depend on cell phone technology for the system to keep in contact. The bad news is that if your car gets taken to a dead zone, you lose contact with the car. The good news is with so many cell towers in the U.S., you can accurately plot where the dead zone is and still track your car to a known radius.
