Default So, which intake should I go with?

When researching a few months back, the concensus was to buy the injen intake, but recent posts suggest otherwise. So which is best, both value and performance wise? Thanks.

the k&n cai is cheaper than the injen cai. according to the k&n dyno it makes 8.1 peak hp.

I totally agree... it looks like intake is where you get the biggest gain other than F/I, so make it count and get the one with the highest gain (K&N)

Which leads me to question where I can get the best deal on the K&N or injen intake.

I installed the K&N and am really happy with it. Remember, they have been in business a very long time.

It all depends on how much you willing to spend and all? Injen is good intake. I got the short ram intake. The only problem is that when you have to clean or change the filter, you gotta take out your battery in order to get it out. I might change to the Blitz intake. So that away, I don't have to take out my battery every 3 months to clean the filter. The filter on the Blitz is right there at your convience to clean or change.

I just installed the injen SR on my wife's xB and it's great. Throttle response is smoother now and you can feel a difference over stock at around 2.5K+ RPM and this is with an Auto. I paid $145 shipped for mine off ebay. According to the dyno run that was done a while back all intakes but the factory AEM made a similar whp of 3-4 gain. So I'd just get the most cost effective one. Plus the K&N creates the 8.4 whp at around 5.5K rpm which the autos don't reach too often anyway, so it wasn't much of a decision to me.

Are the CAI for xA and xB interchangable? Somehow I think they are not...the reason I asked is b/c I've seen many CAI made for xB. The only one I found more often is the AEM. I want to look at the Injen and K&N before deciding on getting one. Anyone has pics?

Also, I heard the K&N CAI ends behind the fog light area (on the xA at least). So that means it won't fit if the car already has fog lights installed?

Sorry for all these questions, as I am new to the scene and upon searching I am still confused. Thanks a lot guys!

The Injen CAI is interchaneable between the xA and the xB, however the short ram is not. But because of where the shortram is positioned in the xB, it works like a cold air intake rather than a shortram.

As for foglights, I only understood the problem to be with AEM's CAI that came from the dealer. Aftermarkets I think are OK on this issue. My wife has foglights on her xB and the shortram is no problem at all.

For an xB, I would highly recommend the Injen shortram. It probably cost the least out of all the aftermarkets out there and you still get the benefit of CAI. Plus the installation is easy too. Only took me 30 mins. to remove the old airbox and install the SR. Haven't been dissapointed with it yet.

Thanks and I will keep that in mind when I have enough cash for a xB.

So only the Injen CAI is interchangable or do you know if all CAI are the same for the xA and xB?

My wife wants fog lights on her xA, but also a CAI...and I couldn't find too many choices for the xA, so I am hoping someone can help out a newwwwwbie.

Thanks again

Both AEM _and_ Injen cold air intakes work on the xA and xB. K&N has a Typhoon for the xB and another for the xA. The Injen CAI is the Injen Short Ram with an extension.

Aftermarket foglights for the xA...There are no aftermarket "direct fit" fog lights for the xA. Hella makes a set that will fit, but you will have to screw in the mounting brackets into the inside of the bumper.

as for the AEM CAI+Foglight problem, I believe that was only for the xB...

i heard that the blitz filter is horrible. it lets in a lot of air, but a lot of dirt too. thats just what i heard though. personally, i'm thinking of going with the blitz, and just puttinga k&n filter on it.

Sorry for the confusion, but I was referring to adding an OEM fog lights to my wife's xA.

Since I have read that the K&N CAI ends at the fog lights area, I was thinking if that meant OEM fog lights no possible that's all.

So I can bascially pick up an used CAI from anyone with a xB then? If that's true that's cool! Like I said, even on eBay, most CAI are title for Scion xB.

Thx!

AEM has a short ram which is very similar to the Injen. I prefer the mounting bracket location on the AEM. The distance is shorter from the filter to the bracket which provides less filter movement.

Thanks! So again I can buy CAI for the xB and it will fit the xA no problem? Just to double-check before I fork out 200+ dollars.

You are correct if you purchase either Injen or AEM CAI. The K&N has 2 different part numbers for each car and I believe are not interchangeable. The Injen short ram for sure are not interchangeable but I don't kmow about others. If they are a similar design to Injen then I would think they too are not interchangeable. Hope this helps your decision.
