Default So what's the deal with the avic n1 in a TC? Anyone have it

I read different things here about it. I read that the fan is loud, but other sites I did not hear that.

Some also say that it fits into the tc and you can still use the cover to hide it, but others said it won't.

So what's the deal because this is the best nav out there by far with the voice activation and touchscreen and all the sick features????????

THANKS!

Ok look - I know the search on this site SUCKS, but there are probably more than a dozen threads on exactly this topic, and if you don't want to search, just scroll down - people were talking about this earlier today.

I feel like being nice and I know you probably don't want to search, so the long and short of it is that it totally works, plenty of people have it (and it would be more if it didn't cost a few grand) and the fan is noisy, but other noises usually cover it up.

It mounts kinda, but it's a tight squeeze to get the cover to close. You'll also have like .5" on either side of the unit and you'll have to fab something yourself to fill the gaps if you care as nobody really had a mounting bracket for it yet.

If you can afford 2,000 for a stereo, you can afford another few hundred to have some installer do a nice job.

its not really a fan. its a gyroscope.

it is in the hide-away unit. put that somewhere it can't be heard from.
(the poeple that complain usually have it under their seat)

also if you want the door to close you need to mod the kit to get the radio to sit back farther.

I did do a search I am merely asking questions about things that I read from different threads. That is the point of this post: to clear up the different things

And what is a better aftermarket navigation than this that fits into the TC? I'm not talking about carputers and stuff, just strate up nav system.

this might help to fill the gaps on the sides...go to newcelica.org and search for this thread.."Anyone know where I can buy a double DIN bracket online?"..toyota sells these fillers made of ABS plastic that are made to fill the extra wide double din.

Does anyone know if this A) fits the tC and B) is the right size to fill up those gaps around standard double DIN units? I know a bunch of people on this board have these double DIN stereos, and I've yet to hear one person who found a trim bracket that they didn't just mod themselves.

I'm assuming a shop can do it for you. I just wanted to see if anyone had it installed in their tc here to make sure.

i might give it a shot with those. itll cost onlyu like $30 and the celica guys seem to love it. They have the same wide double din as us and they used these fillers along with the stock mounting brackets for two single din units and it looked pretty good.

Nice system, I had one in my previous car for about 4 weeks. Noice was not a problem for me. As for a better nav system other than factory installed its the best I've used. Had a garmin and a Cobra.
Can't tell you about tc application, have an appoinment to have mine installed next week. My installer said he thought it would fit fine but you never know until their done. :?

I own a N1 and I dont think theres anything better than it. You have the optional voice activation plus the rear view camera...(***shameless plug***...I still got one for $1300 shipped anywhere, brand new, in a box...and I can get the rearview camera for $150 additional)
