soft brakes?
maybe im crazy or maybe this is normal, but i have had my tC for about a week and really like it so far. I've noticed though that the brakes seem kind of soft, as in you have to press harder to get response. In other words the pedal seems soft and u really have to press it hard all the way to get better response. It just seems weird to me because most of the cars ive driven have a more accurate and exact response to the brake. Not sure if this is common but maybe someone can back me up on this...
Yep, the brakes aren't perfect. It takes a lot to make a good brake system though. There are a ton of factors. The rotor size is one. The rotor shape is another. The rotor material. The pad material. The caliper piston size. The caliper and rotor weight. The brake lines (steel braided, rubber, steel braided and runner coated). The brake fluid (higher wet and dry boiling points are good). The master cylinder (the amount of force it generates per depression of brake pedal). All of these things matter. I'm glad that we can choose brake upgrades available for the Celica. They've been out for a while, so prices should be reasonable.
Are you sure you've broken in the brakes?
When we got our new camry the brakes were insanely soft... After a few hundred miles it was fine however...
If you are coming from a Honda like the Civic... The amount of force your foot needs on the pedal is alot more for Toyotas...

i noticed the brakes were a bit soft until they broke in (around the 300 mile mark).. now they feel great.. I drove my old civic again (sold it to a friend) and the brakes don't have the stopping power that the tC does.. then again I have pirelli pzero's on the car.. stickier tires help stop quicker too..
This has been covered before. It's the way they tuned the hydraulics of the braking system. The brakes grab very strongly. You need to give it extra force because it's tuned to feel soft for a more luxorious feeling. It's just the image they were going for.
Better bads with SS lines will help if you want more.

mine were soft to begin with.. but that's because they weren't broken in yet.. once they broke in.. the pedal feel was much more solid..
and yes they were going for a luxury feel, the brake pedal has a 2-stage booster on it.. first is the smooth, luxury feel.. the 2nd stage is a stronger feel to it (more boost)..
