SOMEONE make me Feel Better
so my order for my tc is in(superwhitemanual) , should be here in 5 weeks. I cant wait i like the car alot and have been hearing a lot of good things, but alot of bad things as well!
- Bad Paint, chips cracks, discoloration( iheard white turns yellow?) ( i mean cmon, i know they had to cut costs but on the paint?....)
- Bad tires, slippage (and here im thinkin that since its the same as lexus is300 itll be good tires)
- Accident prone? everywhere i look i see new scion tc crash pictures, 'pick a color, here it is totaled'
- Rattles and other annoying things in cabin (this one i can pass off but with everything before it, it becomes yet another problem to add to the list...)
Listen i know its a new car and its gonna have its problems, but u gotta understand where im gettin my doubts. Dont get me wrong im convincing myself that its a great car every time i see any problems with it, but after a bunch of times i paused. Tell me how serious these problems are, and what u guys think.

Paint? Well, depends. I have seen no real issues with my paint yet... so I'm not sure exactly what people are talking about. May vary by area.
The tires suck - IF you got the Potenzas... I think in some areas, they have Yokohamas... which would probably be at least a little step up.
"Accident Prone" really has nothing to do with the car, as much as it has to do with inexperienced and poor drivers. Younger people want this car and think that they're invincible in it... come to find out AFTER they total it that they're not.
Rattles... again, I haven't had any of these.
You have to understand that here on SL (or any other Scion/tC site), the complaints are multiplied b/c this will be one of the first places that people come and then you get the "me too" posts. But just consider all of the people out there (not on SL or other sites) that probably have no problems. Just b/c you see 5 or 6 posts on something doesn't mean that it affects EVERY car.

On the plus side, where else can you get a car with so many options starting at under $17000. Paint can be taken care of, tires can be changed, accidents are bound to happen with any car, and rattles don't happen to everyone and most can be fixed.
Ive had my SW manual for 4 weeks now. Chips in the paint are a b!tch but nothing a lil touch up paint cant fix. Havent had any rattles so far. As far as the tires go... i have the yokohamas. Theyre all right i guess. they dont handle like my old falkens on my old accord but theyre sufficient. Took a few hard turns today and they hold up decently.
I'm sure the tc will rattle just about as much as other $17k cars out there. Same with the paint, tires are temporary so I wouldn't even begin to care about that, etc. Always remember the price of the car.
It's always funny to read what some complain about regarding a $16-17k car, etc...
For the xb=no cruise control, don't like the stereo, cheap paint, blah, blah, blah...but, how can I make it faster, etc, etc.

I notice this, but only on the edges like the door. A clear coat would give the car's paint some durability and longevity.

Have not noticed this. I dont know what kinda of tires I have, but let me tell you from experience that going into turns at high rates of speed have never, not once, has the car began slipping due to wheels. Besides that, tires are cheap. You are going to replace the tires in two-three years (depending on your driving habits). You can get nice ones after that.
- Accident prone? everywhere i look i see new scion tc crash pictures, 'pick a color, here it is totaled'
Just like what the guy above me says. Toyota's target market for the Scion line is youths (I think I saw somewhere the average age of a Scion onwer is 18-30). Bottom line is, cars don't kill people... People kill people. If someone gets in an accident resulting from a loss of control, the person who drove the car is to blame, not the machinery.
- Rattles and other annoying things in cabin (this one i can pass off but with everything before it, it becomes yet another problem to add to the list...)
I noticed this one, in the hatch area somewhere. Also, if you open the front sun roof and keep the back moon roof closed with the cover slid closed, the cover tends to flap and make a flapping sound. I have to admit, that is something that bothers me a bit, but I just counter that by crankin' up the volume on my stereo.

The tC is not perfect, though. The manual transmission leaves room for improvement. The clutch is very sensitive and you will often find yourself rocking the car like a 16-year old learning stick. It just takes time to get used to. There are DIY mods to fix this problem though. With a clutch pedal stop mod, a engine dampener, and short shifter, the problem not only goes away but actually makes the ride much much funner and relaxing at the same time.
Pound for pound this is one of the best vehicles you can buy for the money. It holds the Toyota legacy of safety and quality, and besides, the issues you are concerned about are resolvable with a couple of mods.
ack thanks for the input makes me feel better. But tchui! chips in the paint? aww man. How bad is it? and where do u get it? Ive also been hearing that the white gets discolored, and also that the reason the paint chips is cuz ppl wax it or wash it right when they get it from order? is this true, did u do anything particualr when u first got it man?
This car must be accident prone! I was thinkin about all the accidents people post, and Im driving home. Light turns green Im turning left and all of a sudden some guy comes flying in the other direction and isnt slowing down. Almost hit me on my passanger side. I thought it was over.
The tC attracts accidents! I had such a close call after only 3 weeks!

well for me, i had my sw tC for 5 weeks now.
So far I only had one chip on my front bumper. Its probaby cause I drive on the highway alot. But it was very small, no one would be able to see it unless they're like a feet away. Anyways, I fixed it with touch up paint and its gone.
The dealer told me not to wash it in the first month or so, if I do need to, hand wash it.

well here are my thoughts..
paint - i believe that it's the design of the front end that allows it to be very flat, and that's why we all have stone chips now.. a clear 3M bra would be a good investment.. either that or in a couple years having to re-paint the front end.. (bumper cover)
tires- yeah the stock Bridgestone RE92's aren't that good, even on other cars.. you can read the reviews at tirerack.com.. they basically are good enough to get you off the parking lot.. better tires exist, and that's what should be on there, they obviously saved money somewhere and the tires show it..
Accident prone- no i haven't seen it being an accident prone car.. I've had to make emergency manuevers with my tC and nothing caused me to lose control.. I think what you have are inexperienced drivers who are pushing the car beyond it's limits and they would've totalled even the best handling cars in the world driving as crazy as some have.. i believe it's bad driving decisions.. Like passing a guy and keep going instead of hitting the brakes and not passing them.. How about not passing them at all? see? experience shows you that sometimes just don't chance it.. These inexperienced drivers have learned the lesson the hard way now.. So no, it's not the car its the person behind the steering wheel..
Rattles.. most of my rattles have been fixed with foam tape and felt tape, insulating the thinner plastic from moving against the stiff steel structure.. there is a rattle from the sunroof but again it was fixable with grease on the joints.. (dried up and no lubrication caused the noise)..
And as far as the other complaints many if you read are from someone who wasn't experienced messing with the electrical system, or letting someone install a car stereo that had no business doing that work.. and they come back with Check engine lights, or no lights, or car won't start, etc.. that really wasn't Scion/Toyota's engineering fault.. it was someone messing with the factory stuff...
Also I have noticed that certain colors of the tC some drivers cannot see.. the lighter colors for some reason. Friends of mine have told me about and i've talked to the dealer about it.. weird..

squarrel made a good post.
I have had mine for almost 2 months:
no rattles
paint problems? well, just hard to keep clean (on the darker colors) and like 2 minor scatches that I cant see but can kinda feel.
tires: took a hard, rather high speed turn tonight (stupid me
) and needed to manuver around some holes in the road while turning, handled very well.
great car no regrets what so ever!
the positives outweigh whatever negatives there be.
and the urge to mod is so addictive and fun!

it rained here in bakersfield and man it was slip and slide all I had to do was push my car above 2k rpm from a stand still and i would lose traction. When I am trying to pass people all I had to do push the throttle a little harder and i would lose traction. My tires suck. I still have about half or more of thread on all tires left and im at 10200 miles.
rattles, yes ive had mine serviced twice and there is still some rattling. Paint, yes very soft. not chippage but small scratches from road debris. tires? all season radial - ____ty all the way around. accident prone??? the drivers are accident prone - not the cars. otherwise the car is very quiet at highway speeds, feels like a $20,000+ car. good sound deadening, decent pioneer stereo, very accomodating transmission, moderate power, comfortable seats, looks good, gets _____es.
damn, okay, ill definitely be lookin into gettin some pirellis after a little while when i get the tc, allseasons since im in NY. Does anyone know how the Clear Bras look? (on white tc esp.) does anyone have pics, oh and if they do look good, where can i get them from? oh and ppl who got yokos, how are they? theres a chance i might be gettin those stock.
not washing the car for a month straight? sounds pretty decent. Any one else have any paint advice?
thanks guys, im pretty set on this car i cannnot wait. I just saw some articles online sayin like, oh x car is not good, opt for something better like the scion tc, or seeing cars labeled "sciontc fighters" is deff boostin it for me.

paint - it's soft, yeah, but then again...most cars painted today are really thin and soft on the paint. it just requires a little more tlc. you shouldn't worry about swirls on super white, my indigo ink pearl is something else though. no, it won't turn yellow, some people just don't know how to polish and wax properly
tires - they aren't bad...are you going to be racing on ice? i don't think they are anything to worry about...i guess put up the money and get the 18" rims with p zero neros if you want something better. i live in ohio and mine do ok in the snow...it's all about how you drive.
accident prone - this is because alot of scion drivers are young people who don't pay attention and have a reasonably fast car. it's not accident prone, but it's not dumba$$ proof. any car is accident prone if you don't pay attention to the road. plus, you have to realize that more people who own scions are posting stuff about them online than people my parents age, it just comes with the age catagory
rattles? hmm, i don't have any...i've had my car since february...i haven't had any trouble with it really. i got my 05 floor mats replaced with 06 ones because of the hole i was making in them...my paint is soft...thats about it, nothing to really complain about...

Paint - Yeah, there are chips in the front. Then again, this is not the only car with chipped paint. I've driven over 34000 miles; I was expecting it.
Rattles - They come and go. Not bad rattles, but they're there.
Tires - They are good when dry and OK when wet. Of course, if you drive aggressively all the time, you're gonna think the tires suck. I feel a little slippage on my tires on hard turns now, but it's been 30K and I think I can safely reach 40K before replacements.
Accident prone - Young people + sporty car = more accidents.

Dont worry, I have done my research. You could not get anything better for $17000. To get a car simmilar to a tc with all of the things that come with it standard, you have to spend at least $23,000. Plus TC is just soooooo sexy.
