Default SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!! Lip v/ Pedestal

What do you guys think? Lip or pedestal spoiler for the tC. I am more into the subtle sport look that the Scion body kit offers and I think the Lip spoiler follows the lines much better.

IDEAS!!!!!!!!!!!

lip.

let a deck style spoiler be a finishing touch, not a foundation to build on.

y do so many ppl like the lip...to me...i can't hardly even see it when i see other tC with a rear lip spoiler...i mean spoilers on cars are mainly for looks, unless you some hardcore racer that actually want the spoiler to do what it suppose to do, so if other ppl can't see your spoiler y bother getting one???

I have a tC catelog, it said that they are coming out with a rear wing spoiler soon, so i waiting for it to come out if i am goin to get that or just leave it as it is (that is nothing at all)

Regular spoilers are suppose to activate around 60 mph, providing maybe 5 lbs or downforce...

If you see the newer porsches and lambos, they all have mechanically raised spoilers around 55ish to provide stability... You don't have to drive a car hard to have a working spoiler...

However putting one on a FWD car is for nothing but looks, and I guess having a lip spoiler no one can see makes it harder for them to clown you when they want to... But you also have something there for yourself when you park the car and step outside to look at it...

No one ever shows pics of preludes with lip spoilers, you only see the ones with shopping cart handles...

In my opinion, I like the lip. It has no purpose, but as you can see it just adds a lil something something to the rear and breaks the run-on hatch.

**Sorry for stealing pics, but it's easier to see when you compare. I didn't have any great shots of the spoiler...and as you can see, I am partial to my black cherry

i have a TC wit ha lip spoiler. it came with the car. at angles its VERY noticable. lip spoilers have no function but looks good with a mild look on the car. but if your goin to be aggressive with the flashy kit then the lip is gonna be pointless.

i say the lip is only noticable on the stock look. and if the spoiler is a different color.

and FWD's do need some downforce in the rear, like you said kauss its not a RWD but you still need the rear wheels on the ground. the rear end of the TC isnt that heavy so a spoiler might be needed to keep it down. thats if your plannin on racing on track or sumting, other than that its worthless

I like it when the trunk has a lip. So I would vote for lip spoiler. But the current factory lip spoiler on the tC is very weak. Needs to be longer on a horizontal plane. It looks like a stub.

About the only time you would need a spoiler for a FWD would be to achieve max speed in a straight away, and thats very far fetched... You have to hit a bump to upset the car or the car have a very horrible front lift problem for a spoiler to be worth using...

If you have a functional spoiler on a FWD car, you'll induce force on the nuetral wheels causing you to lose power and understeer...

If you're using one for 1/4 miles, you'll probably lose time because your front will be lifted more so than without the spoiler...

So to any serious racer, they probably can do without a spoiler on a FWD...

Porsche spoilers go up at 70mph, and retract at 55mph- There is also a switch so you can raise the spolier at any time.

I like the stock lip spoiler, but if it was a little more pronounced it would look more aggressive-

I would rather not have any spoiler than have the pedestal spoiler-

I think it looks fine with no spoiler at all. If you do want to put a spoiler on the car, please do us all a favor and don't disgrace the tC by putting a huge double-stack carbon fiber adjustable wing on it please. I beg you. Everyone laughs at you when you drive by with one of those things on your car. It just screams ricer.

I really like the way the lip spoiler looks on the silver tCs, but I have a black one, so I'm not sure it's worth it, since it would barely be visible. I'd really like to take another look at a black one with the lip spoiler in person, but I haven't seen any around. I had gone back and forth on it for awhile, and decided not to order it with the car and decide later. Well, two months later, I still can't decide. I'll probably end up not getting one, unless the pedestal spoiler ends up looking better than every picture I've seen of it does.

Why is it that people still think that a spoiler only helps on rear wheel drive cars, this topic has been discussed so many times and i get sick of hearing
" its pointless to have a spoiler on a fwd car"

kauss you need to do a search and read up on spoilers a little more, you are on the right track w/lambos and such but if you still beleive that spoilers only help on straight aways in a rear wheel drive than you are misinformed and of course some pdestal spoilers people buy will not help the car at all, but if you buy a good spoiler you can improve cornering and downforce whether the car is fwd or rwd you still want the rear tires "secured" to the road

I dont like the looks of any spoiler on a car with that small of a trunk lid. It takes up the whole surface which doesnt look too good IMO.

I am not talking the huge shopping cart handle that people are using at the moments. I am refering to the TRD pedestal spoiler that is already out. The picture at www.brandsports.com is suppose to be the one TRD has.

I have the Scion body kit and was thinking the outside was missing something. I know right now I am working suspension mods but still. I hate the huge spoilers people put on as if there car needs to be drug backwards to wind it up like a matchbox car or something.

something to consider, the lip spoiler requires no drilling it just sticks on vs the pedestal one which requires drilling holes.. something i wouldnt want to do
