Spring scam?
My dealer just told me that in order to buy my lowering springs that I also have to buy the shock set. He says that on their computer it even tells you that the shocks are needed to use the springs. Now, c'mon that has to be crap!! To many guys and gals with springs on their tC's without it right?

that is total BS... i've never heard such requirement for springs. He's just trying to make money off of u.
Also...if u want to get a decent set of springs...wait about 1 month. GoldLines will be releasing their tC springs. It lowers 2" all around with lifetime warranty.

I bought the TRD Springs from Kearney Mesa Scion without any pressure to buy shocks or anything else. That dealer is misinformed or just trying to sell you more stuff. -Jayme
My advice would be to first give the dealer proof (documentation) that they're incorrect. If they still refuse to budge, then tell him that you can buy the springs alone on-line, so it's up to him whether he sells them to you, or you go somewhere else for them.
actually, he could be referring to something i read on a thread awhile back.
the TRD springs will supposedly wear out the stock struts faster than normal and the TRD struts are a better match for the springs.
again, this is coming straight from what i remember reading and none of it is coming from me. i see no reason, however, to get the TRD struts before the stock ones wear out.

Stiffer springs will wear out the struts faster, but so will more spirited driving. The amount of strut lifespan that you lose will be pretty negligible.
WOAH WHAT? $4500 installed? I'd call that more than a bit high. I don't know about struts, but I can get the springs for about $480 installed across town. My dealer (a bunch of idiots) wants about $900 total.

Any lowering springs no matter how little the drop will wear out a stock shock or strut faster. You lose 1" - 2" of shock travel when you lower your vehicle. This wears out your shocks quicker. Go ask any reputable speed shop and they will tell you it is much better to get a shock/strut designed for a lowered suspension, than to continue using your stock equipment. Tokico's are bad ___ and they are pretty in-expensive. I had them on my CRX and my Neon and it was like night and day compared to the stockers!!!
