Starting Gear: 1st or 2nd
So after driving past 25,000 miles in my manual tC, I've decided to start driving without using 1st gear. Starting almost all the stops in 2nd gear, being able to go from standstill to ~45 mph is easier then having to make a shift at ~25 mph.
Anybody else not like their not so perfectly matched manual transmission?
Anybody else stop using 1st gear?
I'd love to see our transmission without 1st gear, but with 6th gear.
Anybody done transmission re-gearing?

You must not drive very "spirited".
I have a Doc I short shifter, and love ripping through the gears, including first.
This car still needs a 6th gear though, cruising at 3500 RPM at 75 sucks.
Scarifice for having close gears I guess...

Its not lazy
I just hate having to shift so soon after take off
Taking off around 2700 in second is a nice ease into motion...
I change it up for spirited take-offs.
But think, what is the best way to waste time down a strip? shifting
considering, unless you are running a sick build, our top speed is maybe 100mph on a 1/4 track, going from 0 to ~45 in one gear could cut time without that shift at ~25mph

i used to do that, but people started to say that that uses the clutch too much, and might be why my stock clutch started to feel way too stiff. i'll do it occasionally... like when i'm on the phone(not smart), but i'll usually do 1st gear starts now.
dude.... why are you starting in 2nd gear? cmon now. i'll admit that every once in a while i get annoyed having to shift to 2nd from 1st, but you CANNOT do that for a prolonged period of time unless you want to buy a new clutch and maybe other stuff... it's harder on everything when you do that

starting in second is just pointless. like someone else said you should've gotten automatic. i love going trough gears even at 6 a.m. on my way to work. i ALWAYS start on 1st. unless there's snow or ice
