What's up everyone? Here is my problem, I am getting on the highway this evening and accelerating steadily. Once I crossed over about 40 MPH, the steering wheel started shaking, and progressivly increased as I gained more speed. The feeling is similar to that of a fryed wheel bearing less the noise. I am curious to know if anyone has encountered this? Even when dis-engaging the transmission, the wobbling continues until a complete stop. Your thoughts?

 

wow ive never heard of that anywhere on the forums..hmm definetly a issue to take back to the dealership and have then check it out..you gotta warranty, use it

sounds to me like an alignment needs to be done. Something not covered under factory warranty. That is something SEARS will do for approx. 20 bucks or free as long as you own tires from SEARS, lol

 

I would disagree with you on the alignment simply because the cars natural travel is still straight. As I mentioned in my first post, the vibration is closer to that of a wheel bearing assembly that has been fryed out less the noise. Either way, it's going to the dealer Monday morning!! maybe when they weighted the wheel/tire when they put it on, they might have gotten it off...

Could it be a bubble in a tire? I know when my dad's Jetta got a buble while I was driving it, it went crazy nuts. Then again, that was after 80mph...and I was on the way home from so cal

 

i agree it could either be a bubble in the tire or it could be that the wheel could have just thrown a weight of which with put the tire out of balance so check all for tires for bubbles and if there aren't any find a shop that has a tire balanceing machine to see it is out of balance

i guess if the radio had no power you guys would rip everything apart without a clue before checking the fuse.....

 

ur problem is a simple tire balance or a chucked wheel. possible lug nuts are loose but not likely. and sears charges 60. bucks for an alignment,there tires or not. the warranty is 6 mos 6000 miles.

Do you live in a place with snow?

Just wondering because if there's snow in your wheels that'll happen and it's as easy as kicking the snow out

Happened to me last night....freaked out until I remembered I got my tC stuck in my yard that morning...pulled over, removed the pound or so of snow from each wheel, drove great.

 

Check wheel balance If that's not it, do you have a dinged rim?

Check the simple things first.

It's nothing serious!!
I'm assuming it's cold where you live.....
Low profile tires have a softer compound thus when it gets cold/freezing temperatures... your tires "freeze" in the position that you parked. AGAIN... there's nothing wrong!! I bet the vibration stopped after about 4-5 miles... that's cause your tires warmed up from moving. This is completely normal!!

your tire could be cupped like mine i just had mine rotated and the back tired where cupped when they put them on the front i have a slight vib but its starting to go away the more i drive it

 

if it happens all the time and not when the car has sat outside and is still cold.. then it's definitely a bad tire.. if you can feel it in the steering wheel, it's one or both of the front tires.. a good balance should find this..

 

it sounds like alignment to me b/c even if the car still travels straight, it could still be slightly off. either way take it to the dealer b/c it should fall under your warranty

 

Alright everyone, first thing this morning I went outside and knocked off all the snow that built up inside the rim and in the fender. I didnt realize it was that bad last night cause it was dark. Went for a fast pull down the H-way, and its all better. The snow cause the wheels to be unbalanced, causing my midnight frustration. Thanks everyone, you have all been kind!!
