Maybe they don't bother? Some kid wanting a joy ride is gona have a little trouble starting our cars because of the immobilizers, or some of our cars rather (tc spec = no immobilzer ). Anyone who knows how to get past that has bigger fish to fry.

Some guy tried stealing my car with a shaved key. It wouldn't start because the idiot didn't know anything about computer chips in the stock keys. Somebody should have done their research.

Haven't you heard the expression, "People are idiots" I think that fits perfectly with those kinds of people.

What do they have to do to make your car work again after its been immobilized?

send another signal to say its been recovered or do they have to plug in to some spot on our car and turn it back on?

Because if its as simple as when you lose your ATM pin and you just call and they re-activate it and give you a new one...why not just call and ask them for shoots and giggles to turn off your car. If I was employed at a place like that I'd get bored and do it for people, maybe you'll catch the right guy on the right day and he'll do it for ya. Turn your car on int he driveway and wooosh...it turns off. Be a funny prank if you're a jerk. Steal your friends number(assuming they have an immobilizer), and while they're out making a beer run, turn off his car.

it never gets rendered useless... you just need your key.

I haven't heard any about tC's being stolen in SE Wisconsin or NE Illinois. I'm praying my immobilizer doesn't let me down since I do park on the street and in a rough city outside of Milwaukee.

Also pray that using my valet key doesn't screw up anything. I don't feel comfortable carrying 300 buck key in my pocket while being with dogs all shapes and sizes. Those damn Labs are known to be good pocket thieves...don't want to explain to the dealer how my key got teeth marks

Alright, let me rephrase my question.

When you car gets stolen, you call a phone number, give them some information and then the 5-digit..? pin off of that little alluminum piece you recieved with your car. They send out a signal to your car and it turns off.

You just use your key and you're able to drive it away again? Because what if its stolen and they have your key, such as, you left your keys in it and thats how it got stolen to begin with?

Or after its been de-activated eventually a cop rolls up on a car in the middle of the road somewhere abandoned, reads the plates, sees that its stolen, confirms that he found it, scion finds out, sends ut another signal and you can drive yer baby home again?

There's no immobilizer in the car that can be turned on/off from an outside source. The key itself has a chip in it that is wireless recognized by the ignition allowing the vehicle to be turned on. Without an original key with a properly coded chip, the car won't start, no matter how good your lock picking/hot wiring skills are. Like the guy above me was saying, if you know how to bypass that whole computer chip system...you'll be stealing much more expensive cars then a tC.

I read my manual today.

I didnt know the immobilizer was the term for the chip.

I made up this fantasy about its a special number that you give to scion and stuff....I feel like someone just told me santa isnt real, again.

:'(

^ lol...aww...

this isnt a gm where onstar and gps tracking is available. also lojack isnt standard, and i dont think very necessary unless ur in neighborhood or an area or your car is a target for crime.

theft of items in the car is most likely

It just seems like really simple technology, is it more complicated than I assumed? Basically what you need is the equivilent (sp?)of a cellphone....right? Inside your car somewhere, and then it recieves a 'message' and boom your car is off. I suppose having operators on stand-by 24-7 is where it would get costly...

the metal tab with the number on it that you were referring to is for you to use when you need to order a new key.

Where theres a will theres a way. Thinking back, how many times can you think of where something new would come out and they'd say that it's "Uncrackable" etc etc. Then a few months later you find some 15 year old kid opening it up with a pen cap. If someone wants your car bad enough, theres nothing that'll stop them from getting it weather you like it or not. Its just that fact that, here it comes my favorite movie quote, the Juice isn't worth the squeez with tCs. a tC ain't worth cop trouble.
