Default Sunroof Motion

Ok... I know the sunroof opens automatically if you press and hold once it opens a little, again and it opens most of the way and a third time and it opens all the way. My question: is there any way to make it close automatically or do you just have to hold down the button until it closes all the way?

even if you hold it down to close it stops about 4 inches short. i think that is the pinch protection thing.

yea the fact that it doesn't automatically close... and then doesn't close all the way when holding it down, kinda bugs me too... i guess it makes sense as a safety thing, but in terms of conveneince, it sucks.... but i still like how people don't think i have a sunroof cuz they don't see a "hole" on the top and then i hit the button and they stand back in awe as my entire roof opens up :D

It may be because it is a safety feature to prevent finger pinchin in accidental cases of pressing the button.

It may also be that the position 4 inches shy of closing is the point at which the front small glass and main sunroof panel simultaneously closes together so perhaps there is some more complicated mechanism that synchronizes the shutting of the two pieces to ensure proper closure to reduce wind noise. Or this could all just be really creative speculation purely derived from my imagination. haha.

You can talk to your alarm installation company about a multi-channel alarm with window module. That finger pinch thing may be an obstacle for them, but I've see some pretty elaborate window module setups.

Let the alarm/remote start close it when you press a second button after you arm it.

Eh... I'm sure it could be done but I've honestly yet to see a reason to go for anything over the stock alarm in my situation (garage parked at work and at home, and I'd rather not have another remote on the keychain). This car is new (my first new car) and my baby - I don't want anything complicated spliced into the electrical system if I can help it.

Is it supposed to have pinch protection in the sunroof? Is taht how it works with the one touch up/down windows?

My buddy's Lexus has the pinch protection on all windows and the sunroof, because they have an auto close feature. You press one button, and it will close all the way. If it detects something in the way, it stops and opens back up a few inches.

If Scion is calling the moonroof leaving a few inches open, then cloasing fully "pinch-protection" I don't think that's accurate. That sounds more like 2 stage closing or something. Just like they say it has tire pressure monitoring when it does not actually tell you the tire pressure of each tire.

But still, for under $17K...both are welcome features. You had to press and hold the button on my Galland to open or close the moonroof fully...what a pain!

The windows and moonroof definitely have pinch protection - I think it's more accurately referred to as that thing they put in so little kids don't close it on their heads. But either way, it exists. I'm not sure what the reason for the lack of auto closing on the sunroof is, but I'm pretty sure they did it on purpose. Oh well... I'll just hold down the button.

i noticed the pinch protection on my windows when on a bright clear afternoon, i was on the highway with no one around .. already past 80.. i tried putting the windows up cuz the wind was furious but it wasn't closing .. i had to slow down a little before i got them closed..

as far as the sunroof is concern, i love it. it so convienent cuz i can leave it fully or partially open and have wind flowing with out having it blown directly in my face like if i had my windows open. i dont think i can ever have another car with out a sunroof
