Default Sunroof Problems

My sunroof has a mind of its own. Sometimes when i try to close it, it goes into that snag mode and brings my sunroof wide open when it should be closed. Does this sound familiar to anyone.

Mine does it too. If I reach up and hold the front flap down with my left hand while closing the sunroof button with my right hand I can close it. Can only do that when stopped though, since I don't have three hands to keep one on the wheel...

I notice that mine collects a lot of dirt up under the front panel. I try to keep it cleaned out just so that the dirt won't make it into the roof mechanism. Try a little spray cleaner followed by some white lithium grease (spray can) to get the rails freed up.

Mine does the same thing occasionally. Seems to be when it's warmer out. Might just need some lube... hehe... lube.

Does anyone elses rattle when you go over bumps? I go to the University of Oregon, and because it is so crowded, and all of the roads on campus are one ways and one-lane, they can't ever repair them or it would mess up traffic really bad...thus, the roads are really bumpy. When I drive my car over the bumps the sunroof rattles (when it is open)...but if I close it like 2 inches, it rattles less. Should I be worried or is this normal?

if you have an 05 tC, then there is a service bulletin about adding thread locker to two bolts.. other than that.. some of use have found that the arms that raise the wind deflector is causing the noise.. some have added shims to those arms, others have just quieted it down with white lithium grease into the joint (where the arm meets the wind deflector)

normal? shouldn't be, but a lot of tc's have it..

Just thought I'd ad to this after hearing back from my dealer.

I have had my 2006 Scion tC for about 6 months now, have 10K miles on it and just brought it in to the dealer for service. I asked them to check the sun roof because:

1. A few times it has stopped closing (when hitting the front tracks for the air deflector) and reopened.

2.It seems to rattle alot when open.

Well, got the call today. I expected to hear "We cleaned the tracks, you are all set", but instead I got, "We have a new sunroof and front air deflector on order, we need the car for a few days". They said there is something wrong with the glass (warped or something).

So, I get a new sunroof.

Just a heads up. If you have these symptoms, definetly take it to the dealer before you clean the track yourself. There could be something else wrong.

Yup. Having the same problem. Gonna get it checke out this week. Will post my results. I work @ a Scion dealership, so hopefully they'll give me some info as to whether how frequent this is happening.

Cool,
Definetly post up. I didn't very good info about what was wrong (only talked to the service writer, don't really get to see/talk to the techs). I'd love to know what was up. I seriously thought they would clean things up and tighten something (all of which I was prepared to do myself, but figured, let them screw with it first).

I was shocked to hear new sun roof assembly.

Not to hack, but can anyone explain why the sunroof stops when you are closing it and then you have to let go of the button and push it again to close it all the way?
