Default sunroof skippin ?

when I first open the sunroof in the tilt mode it is jerky , doesnt open smoothly , then the first say 4 or so inches of movement back as it opens it jerks back like skipping then moves fine after that . I dont think its anything major and I really dont like dealing with my dealership (Rather go to the dentist and have teeth drilled dealing with them) I am assuming I have to get in there and apply grease (which is what my dealer will do , only it will take them an hour and half probably to accomplish this)What would be a good kind of lubricant to put on the railing and the parts that lift the sunroof?

chalk another roof problem... I take it to the dealership. Just to prevent other crap from happening, like my roof shattering.

funny you say that
today it looked like rain so i went to close my sunroof...
at the second stage (after the automatice pause) it would stop closing and open back up again
I took it to the dealer which happend to be down the road and they fixed it in 10 minutes and i was on my way
no appointments
no loaner car
no fees
no worries!

I put some white lithium grease on any moving part on my vehicle to prevent such things, regardless of how it came from the factory, lube it up a little bit, it sits in the heat, the elements..etc

Mine would also go back open at the halfway point. I think the sunroof has the safe feature that the windows do to prevent hands from being caught in the window when it shuts. I put WD-40 on the sunroof rails and havnt had the problem since.

I brought mine into the dealer about 3 weeks ago becuase it makes a loud whistling noise anytime i go over 50mph. They took a look at it and said its not sitting right and they are going to have to replace the sunroof track. They went ahead and ordered the new track but i havent heard anything from them ...i should probably call sometime tommorow.

You know how if you push the button a certain way, the sunroof automatically opens? Can you do that same thing to close it, also?

And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

Never use white lithium grease on sun roof components, it will end up causing more problems then it solves. Toyota makes special grease for sun roofs called “Body Grease W.” If the “Jam Protection” is ever invoked on your sun roof, or your battery ever dies it needs to be reinitialized. You can save your self some time and just do it your self. Here is how it’s done. Push the “Close” side of the sun roof switch and hold it for 2 seconds after the motor stops and your done. Hope that helps some of you.

Lithium grease is okay. I put some spray on about six months ago and my moonroof rattles are gone. The "body grease W" is probably almost the same stuff. But the lithium is easier to purchase!!

What kind of problems can it cause? Why not just use wd40?
