sunroof tinting
well im getting my car tinted this weekend, but the guy said that if i get tint on my sunroof it will strengthen it but if i go over a bad bump, it could shatter or crack. is this true?
aite, i was gonna get 5% on there until he said something about how it could shatter if i go over a bad bump. i have the cover closed 90% of the time anyways, its just when i vent the sunroof, the dam sun is so hot lol
yea, it's not a big deal. I mean, I think it could be worth it to tint (a lot of sun does come through... even with the shade closed, there's still quite a bit of heat) - but I never did it.
It's totally up to you, but don't let him BS you into thinking you NEED it. If it shatters, its tempered glass anyway so its not a big deal

It'll shatter if you do a barrel roll and land on your roof... otherwise you'll be fine. I wouldn't tint it. I just had my tC tinted and my 15% all around looks awesome with the tinted glass roof. Don't hit bumps and potholes doing 85mph and you'll be fine.
i have thought about it this way:
if you get your windows tinted darker than about 20% you should do the roof as well, because the sun light that is makin it into your car thru the roof will make the tint SEEM lighter
i have 5% and it didnt seem like 5% until i got the roof done as well...

It might be that he's trying to say the extra darkness of the sunroof will attract more radiant heat from the sunlight, perhaps making the sunroof more prone to cracking/shattering.
My dad own's a window tinting business and when I worked for him we tinted hundreds of sunroof's and we've never heard of anything like that happening. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is keeping the shade's closed. Double panned class shouldn't be tinted because heat builds up between the glasses and that could cause it to crack/shatter, and I'm not sure if the space between the shade's and the sunroofs would have the same effect.
I am going to get my sunroof tinted...I've been wanting to do it..just never got around to it. the only reason i'm doing it is because i usually have the roof vented and that tint on the glass is to damn light...to much sunlight gets in and it ends up burning the top of my head..haha. I'd prefer to have it tinted darker so that less sunlight gets through and it helps reflect some of the UV rays back out. i say go for it man!
WEll I was thinking about doing the same thing, and this post helped alot, BUT has anyone thought about tinting there whole windshield??? I have 5% on all my windows, and a 6" extended eyebrow, BUt was thinking about getting the rest of the windshield tinted something like 35 or 20%. Anyone eve heard of that being done?
