I have owned both types of cars. I has a 91 Eagle Talon TSi AWD which has a turbo on it and a 98 Buick Regal GS which had an Eaton roots type supercharger.

I personally like turbos better. They have less parasitic loss and can make more boost in a street application. They use exhaust gas to spin the turbine but are not a huge restriction on the exhaust. A supercharger on the other hand robs the engine of horse power to make horsepower. The blower that was on my Regal robbed the motor of 40 HP so it could make an extra 40 HP over the NA version (so in reality it made 80 HP, but you only got 40 extra).

Plus the sound of a BOV on a turbo is a lot cooler and the small hiss of a bypass valve on a supercharger. But the supercharger makes a much cooler noise when it is being used.

Well, considering you have an Auto, I would think the SC would be better for you. A manual would be helpfull to keep a turbo in the high RPMS for full effect, where the SC makes less max HP but increases throughout the entire RPM band.

The trd supercharger is a centrifugal type blower, not a roots. So therefore there is much less parasidic loss, and a BOV will work much the same as on a turbo system.

My last car was a supra turbo. I cut my teeth on turbo engines, but I ready for something different, so it will be supercharger for me. Maybe twin-charging down the road :D

Kinda depends on the dyno numbers.....power, power, power! If they are the same, I would probably opt for the supercharger.

TRD supercharger first, then possible a turbo or better supercharger after my warranty runs out, depending on prices and what not. I'm still getting some aftermarket pulleys for it and increase the blowing goodness of the TRD SC

A medium to large turbo helps some 4 bangers in the top end.. but since the redline on this car is around 6k, I say supercharger.

That's funny, my car pulls hardest @ between 2.2-5k hmm my turbo must be special? Centrifugal superchargers lag the same as a turbo.... btw... they make less power, though.

hows about a quick spooling small turbo to bump you all up about 75whp? for a low price like around 3500 and look pretty

that would be good eh?

I had a turbo 2002 Civic EX and an 03 Evo before my tC. I will be supercharging this one, time for something different.

My second car had a turbo charger and I liked the sounds it made. It wasn't the fastest car, nor the best looking, but it would handle and ride so much better than most cars do today (it was an '85 Benz 300D; inline 5cyl diesel). I will most likely go the turbo route when I save up some more cash.

Centrifugal type superchargers have the same characteristics as turbo chargers, they build peak boost at peak rpm, and take a while to spool up. In other words they have a linear power band just like turbo chargers. If you are looking for off-idle power a roots, or screw type supercharger will be what you want. Also, depending on the type of supercharger (self contained or not self contained) TRD provides with their supercharger system it will require just as much maintnance as a turbo system. Most likely, and to cut down on the cost it will be a non-self contained supercharger (which means that it requires an external oil supply)

Basically, what its going to boil down to is, do you want to be 50 state legal, and do you care about your warranty.

Neither. I think the power of the current tC is very adequate. Plus with gas prices on the rise, I like getting my 25-30 MPG.....

Supercharger for reliability and daily driving. A supercharger will produce far less heat than a turbocharger that sits right near the exhaust and requires far less piping than a turbocharger. Without the need to tap into the exhaust and the resulting heat soak, an intercooler is only truly necessary on high boost applications. From there, we have reliability from the simplicity of a supercharger.

In terms of daily driving with stop and go traffic and travel at low rpms, a supercharger would be best suited for this application over a turbocharger for its quicker response. I do not want to worry about turbo lag when I take a corner in spirited driving and having the boost come on unexpectedly. In terms of getting around town, do you really want to wait 5 minutes for a turbo to cool down after driving around every single time? Failure to do so will lead to the oil in the turbo getting coked and clogging the return line. While turbo timers are available, that is just another item that must be purchased for the whole system to work effectively.

I am glad that TRD is spending their time developing the supercharger application for the tC if that means a more reliable product down the line. I value reliability over break-neck performance and do not wish to grenade my engine after adding forced induction.
