Ive been waiting and waiting for TC's to be out awhile so that sooner or later they would come into our shop needing some work and lately they have been pouring in like mad. We had three in the last week come in to be worked on. The first one was a RS4 which ended up being tottalled out and I was soooo tempted to "borrow" the Alacantra out of it because I thought they would be a nice addition to my car, but on another note two 08' BSP came in today and one of them has both the headlights damaged. (nothing major, just some broken tabs. nothing a little plastic welding wont fix.) Sooooo long story short im scoring some 08' headlights, and I am thinking about something different for eyelids to paint on...any ideas?

 

Huh? Sounds like you're stealing. Otherwise, I'm totally lost.

No not stealing "technically". What happened is that the car got into a front end collision. Both headlights are going to get replaced because they are damaged, and rather than throwing them away (what we normally do with this insurance company), I am going to wait a week or two and then take them and repair them and use them.

 

btw...I have permission from the insurance company because techincally after they pay to replace the headlights they are in ownership of the insurance company.

I wonder what the original owners would say if they knew...
I, for one, would hunt you down and remove them from your car by force.

 

Either that....or make SURE they were totalled....with a bat.

 

lol why would you do that?! The customer realizes they are broken when they read the estimate and sign the marked line for the repair to be completed. Not everyone has a plastic welder to repair them. BTW he/she is getting two new headlights.

 

And we all wonder why our rates are so high.....

 

I respect the fact that you're taking advantage of the system....But the rest of us look at it differently...you know?

the lights are damaged, unless the owner asks for them back and the insurane doesnt give a rip about them then theres is no harm.
and their getting new headlights anyway, but if they dont even want the headlights back then theres no harm.

If the lights get stamped as needing replaced and are thrown out, isn't that a huge waste if someone else can just fix them?

Now, if he was doing this to dozens of parts (as in fixing them) and then SELLING them making a profit, that'd be a little wrong. Not that I wouldn't do it myself, but in the theory of the world it is wrong.

I say go for it. And PM me next time you get an 08 in your shop that needs headlights replaced but can be fixed, I will buy them. jk
