I know the tC has it rattles and such, but other than that it has been fine. Nothing has broken on it. Also, for $18k I expect some rattles and such.
But up against the Lexus, that is just purely wrong. The IS I would imagine would be way better than a Scion.
Plus, I never really cared for JD Power reports, mainly because of reports like this.
And the PT Cruiser won an award, come on!

I think it's understandable since it's just the "initial satisfaction" rating for the first 90 days of ownership. During my 1st 90 days I'd have rated the tC a LOT higher than I would have after 6 months, as it turned into a rattletrap during that time.
Overall Toyota is dominating the top 5 with 3 of their cars in there! Initial quality and long term road test and maintenance costs are a different story. I think TC's are pretty cheap to maintain as long as you keep it stock-ish.
first just let me say that i didnt read the article so this is just my opinions.
when you rate a car on quality...you should also take into account the price paid for the car. obviously there are waaaay better quality cars out there.
but whens its comes down to quality per dollar paid, the tc is a good choice. its been said before, just re-instating.
