Default tc auto vs 5spd

yea yea sorry for the vs thread............ but not really

ne wayz i thought that the 5spd was a little quicker than the auto? I pretty much still think that but a friend of mine got an auto last week and has been talking about beating me in my 5spd tc. I should win right? Has anyone raced a 5spd vs an auto?

Like he ^^^ said, You should easily beat the auto due to the fact that you don't have a torque converter to suck up power, especially during the launch!!! Be sure to keep on the track though!!

Stock for stock, yea you should win. Built for built...running 1/4 mile runs....manual will loose. Reason is because what used to be a handicap torque converter, is now transferring power at a better rate to match a properly built power band (stall) torque converter auto. Kinda why modified drag car use autos.

I hope you are talking about running at a track and not down main street.

yea you should win unless you are a bad driver. the car weighs 70less lbs and you have around 5 or 6 more HP and torque. Youll also be able to shift better in your powerband. So unless you dont know what youre doing, you should win. Good luck.

Who will win between them really comes down to driving skill. With two bad or average drivers the automatic will win. With a skilled driver in the 5-speed and the 5-speed will win.

me and my friends white stick tc (trd exhaust, and CAI K&N) and my auto Azure Pear tc (magnflow cath back exhaust system) raced awhile ago. On the line we took off , and i smoked him... half the way i was up against him like 1 car. Then when he kicked in 5th thats when he caught up and slowly passed me. He beat me like 1/2 of a car. Manual is technically faster then a auto. But if the stick driver sux... then Auto would def take him !!

Well you only lost because he had extra power coming in ,the CAI help him catch up to you and pass you, but its true driver skill is the determining factor in all of this and considering most kids out there with their manual transmisions only know how to do burn outs and make that nice down shifting noise any auto would rape them. in a Manual Tc or a Civic Si because of the lack of experince and bad launching

your dumb, you dont have any more HP or TQ..... you just put more TQ to the wheels. same motor same hp and tq #'s, just a different way of putting it to the ground.

dont call me dumb. after you read all my posts in the tech section and still think im dumb, then you can comment.
i meant to say to the wheels. i know the motors puts out the same amount of power, i didnt think i needed to state the obvious.
the 5sp tC puts around 5 or 6 more HP and TORQUE to the wheels.
feel better? sorry if i ____ed you off.
jeez.

I hope you are talking about running at a track and not down main street.

That is true, but that is only when you are making that much power..

I don't understand how some people are talkin about how the auto is best at drag racing when the car itself runs only mid to high 15's? Sure you mod it and even with a turbo and all and most people would run 12-13's 1/4 times. There whole auto drag racer thing IMO really only takes effect when you start hitting 10's and lower when your car has so much power, the shifting time is what slows you down.

And...the automatic is pretty much easier to drive so it depends on the driver

keep in mind that the manual has the weight advantage, 5 gears, definitely better gear ratios because the auto tC was really made for fuel economy since it does get better mpg than the manual, and less drivetrain loss. If one can drive the manual, i don't see how the 5 speed will lose
