Default tC drama advice needed immobilizer transponder

I bought my tC used...It only came with one key.

Last night we where having a barbeque with some friends my kid grabed my one and only key and threw it in the barbeque pit. by the time I removed the grill to fetch the key the plastic was all burnt.
I cleaned it up and try it out, car turns over but won't start. Immobilizer transponder is fried.

The thing is I live on an island in the Caribbean where there is no SCION dealers around.
Can I order a new key with the transponder programmed?

Someone please help me out ...Car is sitting in the middle of the driveway at my friends house.

Thanks in advance.

Damn kids

I'm pretty sure you can get a key online and all but you would have to go to a dealership to get it programmed. I think that is the only way, but you can call a local dearlership and see what they can do. good luck and kill those kids

Just so I'm understanding correctly:

You have one, sole key to your car.
Your one and only car key, ends up in a pit of fire and grease drippings.
You live on an island in the Caribbean.

Wow.

What island do you live in? my sugestion would be call Scion Corp to see what they can do for you and / or call the closest Toyota dealership maybe they can help and order you a new set of keys and program them.

Best of luck to you, man!

Yup - the dealership can get you a new one. BUT - get ready for the price. The cost of the key, being cut, then programmed ...its going to be a few bucks ...but you have no choice.

for warranty work on product failure due to bad parts or if you are paying full price for something .....then can 100% NOT refuse service. Simple as that.

This is a real mess. I talked to scion corp. They told me that the toyota dealer can and must refuse service because scion does not have dealers outside of the U.S.

And he told me only way dealers can program a new key is by using a spare key or the car itself.

I called another dealer and gave him my vin nummber he told me that 2005 scions didn't have transponder in the keyfob. anyone knows if this is true?

I can see my scion already sitting on the same spot with bird nests and grass al around it in a few years...

Unfortunately, you have only one option. Yes, any dealer can sell you a key and cut the key using your VIN. However, the only way to program the key is to hook up the computer to your vehicle.

Your one and only option is to ship the vehicle back to Miami. Maybe you can find a certified technician with a friend that works for Toyota who will ship all the equipment to the island.

ok first why you don;t call the person who sold you the car. all tc's have 3 keys and the keys set have a unique number if you have family in US I'm sure you can have them order the key for you for about $150 (I think). Also you can ask around here how to bypass the immobilizer.

^ True.

What's scary is that you're on an island with somebody else who has 2 keys to YOUR car.
