Default TC engine fan turning on?

i just received my manual 06 Tc about a week ago... and now when i turn on the engine, the engine fan also turns on, it happens often. From my past experiences with other vehicles the engine fan only turns on when the engine is extremely hot and is about to over heat. When i pop open the hood the engine seems to be hot from a 5 minute drive. The temp guage seems to be normal and i know it's not the weather because it's cool outside. Was wondering if this was normal with TC's. My brother has an XB and his fan never seems to turn on... thanks

is this from a cold-start? or a start from a fairly-warm/hot engine?

i think it happens more often from a fairly warm engine... i also checked all the coolant, and it seemed to be ok...

Why worry about it? Its better to be on right? Keep things cool.... And if there is something wrong you got that nice warranty ^^

a "fairly warm engine" eh? well, i can't say i've had the same problem before, mainly because your car is practically new. i used to have the fan on a lot in my 1992 ES300 (well it's always on, but i mean the faster and louder "on" for the purpose of major cooling), but i later found out that that radiator needed major cleaning, which i later did. ever since then, the fan has barely turned "on"! (if ever!)

.i highly doubt you have my case, but even if your coolant levels were nice and dandy, the coolant in the system (not just the coolant in the reservior or the coolant visible under the cap) could be dirty. a nice and proper coolant flush might solve this. either that or get it checked by toyota and make them fix it (they're probalby gonna resort to a flush as well).

I had the same problem, actually its not a problem. I've sat in couple other tC's and they all had the loud fan sound, esp when the car is not moving.

Is it like clicking on and off? Is it going on and off repeatedly?

Well why don't you think about where you live? You're in california, and it's much warmer there.. i found anything over about 65 degrees outside the fan runs a lot..

Why does it run warmer than normal? Do you want to know??

It's because when this engine came out Toyota re-designed it to run hotter than the previous generation.. Since that generation had the infamous oil sludging problem, since those engines were running colder.. To fix the problem they turned up the heat on the engine.

In michigan, the cooling fan isn't even coming on, and at 29 degrees today it shouldnt!

It is normal for it to be running right when you start up the car, think about how warm it is outside.. anything more than 65 it WILL come on quickly..
