tC Insurance. Is it a "Sports Car"?
One of the things my parents want to avoid in getting a new car is the insurance of a Sports Car.
What did everyone's insurance companies classify it as? A friend of mine told me it is considered a sedan, but I'm not sure if he's right.
Thanks

I don't know about everyone, but my insurance considered it a sedan. My wife works in the insurance agency and they mark cars by points.
I had a Celica that was marked at 22 points and when I got the tC it was rated at 7-8 points. That is a considerably great drop for a premium.
Hope that helps.

Toyota calls it a Liftback Coupe. Shop around for insurance. Insurance companies classify vehicles differently. For example the xB classified by the Feds and State Farm as a VAN (low insurance). Other companies classify it as a SUV ($$$)
Anyone that thinks a tC is a sports car is deluded.
I can't see any insurance company considering a tC a sports car.

Talking to my insurance agent was one of the first things I did when I was looking for a new car, and I found out that the tC, Civic Hybrid, Matrix and the Prius all have approximately the same insurance cost per month in my particular case. And it's only a $40 increase in my monthly payment over a dead '88 Accord that's currently classified as being "in storage" because it can't move under it's own power.
You should get a very reasonable insurance rating for it.

If an insurance company doesn't have the tC in their database, and gives you a quote based on a Scion, it won't be accurate. I received an initial quote from AAA for 1049/yr but once I gave them the VIN, they changed the quote to the tune of 2500/yr. I ended up going through Mercury paying 1200/yr for 50/100/50, 500 collision, 100 comprehensive. It seems Mercury classified it as a hatchback and not a sports coupe. For reference, I'm 25 with no points.

I started shopping and Allstate's quotes claim the car is a Scion tC (NOT Toyota Scion)
and my rates DROPPED drastically. Sorry Progressive, better luck next time--i'm-a-goin' to Allstate!

As of right now my insurance company doesn't have the tC listed in the book so I am just paying 120 a month for full coverage.

I've talked to several insurance agencies, the big ones would be Fleet, Prudential (now High Point), and Liberty Mutual, plus a couple of local ones.
They didn't have any 05 vehicles so they based mine on the price of the car.

I currently have USAA as my insurance. and they cover it as a Sports Car / Coupe.
But with my spotless driving record, and it being a military insurance company, I only pay around $215 a month!
Yep, it's all because I'm only 18.

I gave them my VIN number and they still list it as a Toyota Scion lol. I'm only paying 1060 a year, age 24 2 pts. no accidents.
I get my insurance through my job so I'm sure there is a big discount. Plus I have 3 cars on my policy.

I'm 26 and I was paying around $83/month for my 03 Eclipse GTS (which I just totaled).
Got a quote on a Scion tC with side airbags and its around $63/month. I'm 26.
Go State Farm? They classified it as a hatchback.
